I have been breastfeeding my 8 week old son and the last 2 weeks he has been needing feeding every 2 hours day and night. Before this he would feed every 3 hours during the day and go 6 hours then feed then another 4 at night. Does anyone know why he would now be needing feeding every 2 hours? He only ever eats for about 10-15 min and has never taken any longer and very rarely accepts the second breast. How can I get him to eat more when his on rather than wanting to 'snack' all day?

it sounds like hes going thru a growth spurt, shorter feeds, but more regularly

Yup, sounds like a growth spurt to me, just go with it, feed him whenever he's hungry, and things will sort themselves out soon.

I agree with the other ladies here. Sounds like a growth spurt. Some babies feed for hours and some snack. my little man that I am currently feeding is a snacker. All over in under 10 mins but still likes to feed at least every 4 hours apart from his night time straetch form 6pm until about 1am.
He has always snacked like this and to be honest it is easier to follow his lead then try to enforce timed feeds. We once tried this with DS#1 and it was so heartbreaking to see him get so upset ,so we never tried it again.
It does take at least 4 months to establish breastfeeding and a lot of the time 6 months is closer to the mark. All the best, sounds like you are doing a fantastic job!

It's tiring, it's bloody exhausting at times, it's heart-wrenching, it's so challenging sometimes - but the most rewarding things in life are never easy.

You're doing a great job, what a beautiful wonderful gift you're giving your bubba, the best food in the world  GOOD JOB MUMMA!!! :yelclap:
