start taking raspberry leaf tablets (or drink the tea) - they help your uterus to work effectively during labour. I used them when I was preg- dilated fast for a first labour- and I had the longest cervix when it was measured- my ob was very suprised!

Everyone that I know that has used the tablets has sworn by them.

I haven't forgotten to reply to your email- just been a bit busy- but I will get onto it!

Yip, staying upright and rocking. Try a hot shower too - that works for many people.

My waters broke at 8am and I was 1cm dilated and I was fully dilated by 2pm (actually I am sure it was before that but they wouldn't check it till then).

I am POSITIVE it was because of the raspberry leaf tablets. If I ever have another baby I wouldn't dream of not taking them.

I have nothing to compare it to so I will never really know, but I was taking 6 a day from about 34 weeks or so.

The tea is awful. The tablets are Blackmores.

I had hang-ups about dilation with my DS4, as in my labour with DS3 I got to 7cm and remained there for several hours - which led me to a c/section....

What got me over that hurdle this time? Visualisations.....sounds too simple, no? Start affirming in the months leading up to your due date "I'm gonna get really wide"....visualise yourself getting wider than 10 cm....I drew many pictures of cervix's opening up to double the size of the babies head - I really had to brainwash myself that I was going to open up wide. I used these same affirmations/visualisations during the early part of labour, and my mind was able to draw on them even up to the time I was pushing him out.

but this is really what worked for me - and leaving off VE's until the very last minute.....wait till you're grunting a bit before having a VE....that's what I did, and I was fully dilated bar a cervical lip.

Hi Mich71,

I have been reading this book called "Gentle Birth Method" by Gowri Motha which talks quite a bit about visualising your dilation and labour long before it starts and seems to have really good success with her patients. She is a UK OB who is very much into natural birth and preparing the mother beforehand - might be just what you are looking for.

The book has a script for visualising, but I think you can also purchase CD's with the self-hypnosis. She has a website: www.jeyarani.com (http://www.jeyarani.com).

Good luck!
