hi everyone. my 13month old son has a pretty strange skin condition that started as red rings on his knees at about 5 months old. he had just started crawling so we thought it was from the floor, then he got them all over his feet wich we also put down to crawling (feet dragging on the floor) then they started to go all up his legs. we seen a few doctors and they diagnosed as eczema , then ringworm then finally they diagnosed it as EAC (erythema annulare centrifugum). after having a biopsy done the results came back and said that it wasnt EAC and that they have no idea what it is exactly but that EAC is the only thing like it that they have seen before. They took photos and asked us to come back in 2 months. Its been a month since that visit and the 'rashes' on his skin actually almost went away but the last 2 weeks have come up even worse. he now has them high up on his inner thigh and on one of his wrists. has some strange 'bite' looking lumps on his chest and back also that come and go. his feet and upto a lil above his ankles are completely covered in these strange rings. i have some steroid cream wich i used to use everyday wich helps take the redness out of it but doesnt get rid of it but have stopped using this as i was told it isnt good to use steroid creams on infants long term. he has also had a big red lump come up on his nose twice , both times lasting about 3 weeks. the same lump came up under his chin twice also lasting about 1 week. so that is our story hehe just wondering if anyone else has had any experience with eac or something that sounds like what we are experiencing with my son?
thanks
amy

My daughter also had the same red ring at the age of about 6 months which I thought was ring worm and put fungal cream on but it just got worse until the doctor said it was eczema and prescribed cortisone and then it went away. It hasn't come back since thankfully  My son has severe eczema but his never looked like this. I hope your sons goes away soon too!

I get psorisis that comes up as rings on my legs, thighs, arms, stomach and back. They feel like dry skin. I use cortisone cream on it and it works a treat. My doctor was amazed that mine appears as rings, not blobs.

thanks for the replies. i thought it must be some type of eczema but surely the dermatologist and the doctors at the royal childrens hosp would have known that? i will take some pictures tomorrow and put them up as bubs is in bed for the night now.

Yeah they are dry. When I feel them the skin feels like dry rings of skin, when I look at it it looks like red/purple rings.
