Hi All,

I am seeking some advice...

My DD is 31 months old. She is great at going on the potty (wees and poos) when she has nothing on her bottom half, and hasn't had an accident in a long time.

However...

As soon as I put a pull-up on her she will not tell me she needs to go and just wee in it. She wont even tell me if she's wet!

I have tried just putting tracksuit pants etc on her as it is a little cold at the moment, but she will wee in them too! She realises that she has wee'd in her pants and will say she is sorry, to which i reply "it's ok, it was just an accident".
We have never told her off for accidents.
I constantly remind her that she doesnt have a nappy on and to tell me when she needs to go on the potty, biut she won't tell me!

When we go out,i ask her if she needs to do wees, and she says no, when i go to take her to the toilet, she is wet.

Please help! this has been going on for ages and I just cant get her out of this headspace that she is in.

Thanks

The pullups never worked with my kids, they never noticed they were wet. Try cloth training pants, it won't stop all leaks, but it eases the leakage, and it helps them realise they are wet. IMO pullups just make them too comfy.

My DD was exactly the same - no accidents without pants and accidents all the time when she had pants on.

I don't use pull ups unless I am going out in public and I don't ask her if she needs to go, I tell her "Come on and lets go do wees on the big toilet"

At home I went one week with no undies on (just had the fireplace lit all the time so the house wasn't to cold) and she would run to the potty when she needed to.
The next week I just had those cloth undies and would assist her in pulling them down as she found that stage tricky.
The following week I added pants (with the cloth undies) and found she wet herself up to 3 times a day.
I then switched to normal undies and after a day of wearing them (had a few accidents) she managed to pull them up and down so much easier and thus less accidents.

I still remind her to go to the potty when I know she hasn't been in a while.

My next task is to transfer her to the big toilet in the house as she happily goes to the big public toilets at the shopping centre.

I think it's important to get her used to wearing pants/undies, as it is not 'normal' to walk around in the nuddie (yes, it's natural, but we don't all walk around like that). I used the 3 day potty training method with DS at 25 months and he wore a t-shirt and jocks for the actual 3 day training then after that he wore trousers/shorts.

I only ever use pull ups with DS when he's sick with diarrhoea (helps minimise washing), but never used them during TT. They're just too confusing, and in the early stages of TT kids tend to just see them as a nappy (well, DS certainly did). Now when I use them (like I said, only when he has diarrhoea), he treats them like jocks, wouldn't wee in them if you paid him (or gave him a lolly :p)
