Hi there,

I am currently (not patiently) waiting for my body to realise my baby is dead and let it go. It died at 8.5 weeks - only a week ago - but I desperately want it gone.

Thing is I've already had 2 operations on my cervix this year to remove pre-cancerous tissue - the last only in July (God only knows how I got pregnant, the stitches were still in!!) so I really don't want a d&c if I can help it. I understand the physical risks of waiting too and its doing my head in from an emotional and psychological point of view and I'm not sure how much more I can take. We desperately wanted this baby and now I equally desperately want it gone :(

Anyway, I've read on here that there are tablets you can take to help you m/c? When I spoke to the nurse at my OB office she said there was nothing I could take though. I'm in Queensland, on the Sunshine coast - is it a federal thing? (I'm a pom, and still haven't worked out whats legal in which states *blush*) and my aussie hubby has never really had reason to look into it!

Are there such tablets? Do you know if they're allowed in Qld? If so, from whom would I get them, and why wouldn't my OB nurse know about them?

Many thanks,

Cat x

I am very sorry for your loss and can understand your anxiety.

http://miscarriage.about.com/od/medicaltreatmentchoices/a/misoprostol.htm

I was given misoprostol with my last miscarriage just before the d and c to dilate the cervix, it wasn't pleasant but they thought necessary.

I have heard both good and bad stories about using the tablets.

Take care

xx

I was also given tablets 2 hours before my D&C. Can't remember what they were but it was, like AngelBubs has said, to dilate the cervix and get things happening. I was told not to move, sit up, do anything for those 2 hours. It was an incredibly unpleasant experience for me!!!!

Yeah I've been given the misoprostil or whatever they call it prior to a d&c too. Made me bleed like crazy so I guess they work! They're a cervical suppository.

No-one seems to want / be able to give me tablets, and I can't take the waiting much longer so I've rung my OB's office to ask to be put onto his next list. He said when I spoke to him last that if I got to this point to let him know and he'd make room for me so hopefully it will all be gone by next wednesday. He's off at some conference or other today, but will be back Monday so I've got my fingers crossed for confirmation of Wednesday as a date then. I've booked a week off work (off both new jobs which only start on Mon) but they're being really nice about it. Probably helps that both bosses are women and both have had m/c in the past. It may be a bad experience, but it can't be as bad as the waiting and the nightmares that it's all going to go wrong in the pool surrounded by toddlers!

:hugs: Sorry for your loss and I understand you wanting to get things moving.
You can always go to the hospital - emergency and let them know what's happened and that you are not coping...they might be able to give you the tablet?

Sorry for your loss, I went through a similar experience in July, two ultrasounds, I should have been 11 weeks but fetus was soo small at 8 weeks scan and at 10 week scan there was nothing but an empty sac. I wanted it gone and luckily here in WA Misoprostal was an option. I hope your OB gets you looked after ASAP, I found the wait the absololute worst!

Sending some :hugs:your way
