Hi,

Our son's 14 months old and still having two bottles morning and night (240ml) and sometimes has about 100mls in a cup during the day. What I was wondering is when should I start cutting out his am/pm bottles? or should I try getting him to use a cup for those feeds?

Would love to know when other mums cut out there bubs bottles?

Thanks in advance :D

As soon as my daughter turned 1 I started her on cows milk from a sipper cup, I think she had 3 cups a day until about 18mths then it was just a cup morning and night.

The recommendation is that a baby must have breastmilk or formula for 12 months and then you can go to cow's milk or similar dairy style product if you want. Toodler Milk (and I say Milk as it is not technically formula and it is actually decribed as a supplementary milk drink) is just powdered cow's milk with a vitamin supplement, so you don't have to go on to these at the 12 months mark. They are purely optional and a bit of a marketing ploy actually. If your son has something like cow's milk allergy or is lactose intolerant however, it may be best to get some advice from your MCHN, GP or Paediatrician on this, as he may have special dietry requirements and you may need a dairy alternative. But technically he does not need formula past 12 months. Either way, starting him on sippy cup is a good idea though when it comes to weaning off the bottle if you want to do that.

Success!!!! well that was very easy(so far any way) I've been giving DS his milk in his straw cup of a night time and he drinks about 160mls and in the morning he now wakes at about 7 or 7.30am so I just give him breaky and his been fine no tantrums about the bottle or anything :D
Re: his formula, he is still on the prescription one only because I'm waiting till we go back to the allergy specialist at the end of this month so I can check with his paed. but hopefully we can stop formula soon :)
Thanks for all the help guys
