View Full Version : Snugglers - are they any good?
I have been a dedicated Huggies user except for one leaky pack of babylove when my DD was a few months old. Now with number two due soon and both being in nappies I'm looking for a cheaper alternative. So are Snugglers any good for boys and girls? I'm happy to use the Huggies at night for the longer sleeps but for daytime cheaper but non-leaky would be great.
Advice? Does anyone prefer a particular brand for boys and one for girls?
Thanks guys:smiliedance:

I wasn't happy with the snugglers at all they leaked all the time with DS and we are having the same prob with the babylove. I have found the coles brand to be really good they are alot cheaper than babylove, we still use huggies at night.
I can definately recommend the Woolworths Select brand - like you I use Huggies at night and a cheaper brand during the day. These work out about 10 cents a nappy cheaper and I have had no wet leaks with them yet. DD has the odd 'blow-out' in them, but she also has them with Huggies - not much you can do when it hits the nappy and has nowhere to go but up the back!
I have found that some sizes in certain brands work better than others. I thought the newborn size in BabyLove leaked all the time, but the next size up was fine (NOTE: where I shop BabyLove isn't that much cheaper than Huggies)
I found Snugglers fantastic for my daughter. No leaks, no problems and we still use them. For my son it is a different story. Other parents of boys have said the same thing. So, my theory is, that they are a goer for girls and not great with boys. It's all to do with wee direction:D .

Yep, I'm another one that finds Snugglers work well for my smaller DH and leak profusley for my son who's just over two.
They are made by Kimberly-Clarke, so contain Huggies materials- just much much less of the absorbent stuff and not so generous when it comes to leak guards etc.
And I too didn't like babylove on my newborn- But it's perfect for Ronan now that he's in the Walker size. When a Snugglers would have leaked- the Babylove hasn't.

I don't like using Snugglers with DS's. I use Babylove for the day and Huggies at night. I have just started using Woolies Select through the day and love them. Have heard the Aldi nappies are really good too. Will be trying them next!
Snugglers are great for daytime but I wouldn't use them overnight in a fit. They don't hold nearly as much as Huggies. I have also used Woolies Select brand during the day and they are good also. I like them better then the Snugglers but snugglers are still cheaper.

I agree the Aldi Mamia nappies are great. I've tried Snugglers before and they were the worst nappies ever.Waste of money.

I only use huggies. I have used snugglers and found them to be rather ****. I have only every bought one pack and will never buy them again. To me you pay for what you get. I even found baby love even worse, it was like putting wax paper on my daughter for a nappy.

I've tried a few diff brands of nappies, but I must say that Snugglers were the WORST I have ever used.
I bought them because we were heading on holiday, and I figured I'd get more nappies for my money. Every single one leaked within an hour or two...so I ran out of them before I would normally run out of a pack of huggies/woolies nappies (even though the latter two had less nappies!).
I tried BabyLove, and found them very sticky. The inside wasn't cottony like Huggies/Snugglers/Woolies...they were plastic-y and I had to PEEL them away from DD's poor bottom. Gross.
I've found Huggies and Woolies to be the best...at the moment I'm using Huggies, because DD is at a weird size...where 1 pack of the Woolies is too small, but the next size up is too big.

This is a simple question. A bit fat NO!!! Snugglers would have to be the worst nappies on the market. They leak within an hour or so.
I use baby love during the day and huggies of the night time.

I always use huggies for the two sizes from when baby is born and then we use snugglers, we haven't minded them at all...I haven't found they leak...
I am curious about some of the other brands mentioned, especially if they are better and cheaper.
I noticed comments mentioned snugglers don't last more than 2 hours...how long do the other lasts? I would have thought if a nappy is wet...it just needs changing.

Hate snugglers. Use Babylove for day and huggies for night

I agree.
But in saying that, in our house it's Huggies and nothing but Huggies. With DS we tried Snugglers once and while leaks weren't a big factor, they smelled dreadful!
We have always used Huggies at night. For the day we used snugglers for months, no problems at all. They do tend to fill up quicker than other brands, but we didn't have any leaks with them.
The woolies select are also good and the Aldi Mamia are great, similar to the woolies but a bit better imo. We use the Mamia ones for the day all the time now.
I use snugglers for my DS and I have no leaks at all. They work fine for us!!!
I buy them from Big W and they have a special bulk box (bigger than the ones you get from k-mart etc) so it works out to be a pretty good price aswell.
mamia nappies at aldi are the best, chuck out the rest:thumbsup:

I used snugglers exclusively on DS for 3.5 years, no problems ever. Absolutely loved them.
I used them on DD1 for the first 3 months fulltime and then I used thme overnight for another 9 months and my thoughts never changed.
I've never had any problems with them and there value for money is fantastic. On sale at bigW for $32 for 102 XL or 116 L or 144 S (not sure how many M)

IMO Yes they're great although I know they haven't been for some people.
I had 2 boys and used them for day time.....huggies at night. No troubles.....
Also, different nappies work differently for girls and boys, depending on where they focus most of their padding iykwim....
Bit off the topic, but my friend was at the supermarket shopping for girls huggies nappies and a huggies rep was there and told her she would be better off buying the boys ones cause they have more absorbancy (sp?) stuff in them?!!? What the???? Wouldn't you put the same in each??? Anyway, that's what he said.

Yeah I heard that about the boys huggies as well.

I just read all the posts, and most people would be thinking "I'm nuts", besides that... Each child is different, including their bowel movements... I don't think one parent should tell everyone they know "don't buy these, there bad!" ... it's experimentation and budgetting - please, keep that in mind when innocently offering personal experience as fact.
(and no that wasn't a tell off to anyone, just common sense...)
...Anyway, in personal experience, I use Snugglers, and my brothers use snugglers and have never had a problem.
I've also used Huggies (until the budget came in) and they worked wonderfully.
The only other brand I have tried is Woolies Select, and although somewhat daggy and flimsy, they did the job.
I am planning on trying out the Aldi brand when I find a store (again, the budget lol), so I may have a thought about that too... one day lol
Enjoy your search/research, it's intriguing stuff when you realise you spend 3/4 of a day staring a dirty nappy :p
Babylove, Woolworths Homebrand, Cosifits, Snugglers - all good no leaks and go pretty much all night from 9.30-6.30 - if sleep in, then we usually get a leak on the side she is lying on but this happens with all the one's I've tried including Huggies. And I believe my darling just likes to drink too much in the early morning and that's why I sometimes have the leaks.

I've never tried Snugglers as I've heard they are no good.
I've used Huggies, Select, BabyLove and they all worked well, but DS is in between sizes (he's 15th percentile weight, 85th height!) . At the moment I'm using Coles brand nappies and I'm very happy with them, we've only had one nappy blow out which is a record. Cheap too!
Thanks everyone for your responses. I think it will be a case of trial and error!
Snuglers are not very good my DD wet through them everytime, i didn't like them at all infact i have 2 boxes in my cupboard.. I use babylove and i love them they dun work out to badly priced if u buy the bulk boxes at big w. I can't use huggies as dd comes out in a rash from them.
I used Snugglers for my first son (99) and had no probs at all. When I had my 2nd son(01) they changed the composition of snugglers when he was about 8 months old. This is when I had the problem, they leaked particularly overnight. I would change him middle of the night and still had leaks. He started developing a rash at this point also. I sent the box back. With my daughter(04) I went straight for the huggies. About a month ago I bought Snugglers because Big W were all out of Toddler Huggies(girl and boy). I used half of one pack and ended up going to Wooloies and paying the extra $6 to buy the huggies. They leaked and she too came out with a severe rash. At night she would take off her nappy complaining of a sore F***y. her words ladies. I found a huggies in her nappy bag and put that on her no more problems and hasnt complained since.
It amazes me though because Huggies and Snugglers are both made by Kimberley-Clarke. There is a different composition to the quality of the nappies though and KC admit that Snugglers are the generic brand basically. Cheaper alternative.
I have also tried Babylove when I was training the boys at night. I didnt have a problem very often. Maybe when they were overloaded from drinking too much and they wet sometimes it would leak.
Hope this helps
Tera
I put boys huggies on my daughter at night time, and babylove on her in the daytime. I found that the girls huggies leaked a lot, almost every night, and had heard that the boys have a higher absorbency (sp). I switched to boys and have never had one leak yet!:)
I put babylove on her of a daytime as i can chage her more often so it doesnt matter that they arent as absorbent as huggies.
I use Snugglers during the day and Huggies at night.......Snugglers outter cover just isn't as leakproof after a while........otherwise I find them fine. I've tried just about everyone on the market (not Aldi - which I believe are good but we don't have one here) and have found this combination cheapest and most effective.
