Hi there,

I have some more questions for those who had HG.
How much weight did you put on/lose?
Was your baby born small?
Was your baby born earlier than 37wks?
Also did anyone have HG but still miscarry?
Why do you think you got hyperemesis? These are the some of the risk factors:
carrying twins
having previous hyperemesis gravidarum
being of young maternal age
being obese

I am freaking out that i am carrying twins, or baby hasnt got a heartbeat (i find out in a week)

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer my questions :)

Thank you for your answers. :)
I have read that if you dont put on at least 7kg then youre more likely to deliver a smaller baby before 37wks. Im only early on yet though. Ive lost 3kg in 2wks.

How much weight did you put on/lose? My first pre-preg weighed 55kgs, I was 48kgs at 20 weeks pregnant and still being told how sick I was was normal, I know now I had hypermesis with him. by 40 weeks I was 60kgs. DD3 At 7 weeks I'd lost 8kgs in 10 days had to have a day in hospital to get hydrated, got put on zofran then, I managed to regain 1kg then lost 5 more so 13kgs spent a couple of days in hospital as I couldn't keep down sips of water also found out I had hyperthyroidism caused by the hyperemesis. lost a couple more kgs (can't remember exactly) kind of slowly after that once hyperemesis stopped at 23 weeks I slowly managed to regain the weight I'd lost and added to my pre-pregnancy weight by 7kgs.

Was your baby born small? nope DS was supposedly going to be small 6lb 5 MAX but came out 8lb5 much to my surprise. DD3 was 9lb4oz or 4222grams she was however measuring smaller along the way but by 32 weeks she was a good size.

Was your baby born earlier than 37wks?no DS right on 40 weeks DD3 was 13 days over my date however as she was smaller early on the hospitals date was 8 days behind mine so was 5 days past their date anyhow.

Also did anyone have HG but still miscarry? no

Why do you think you got hyperemesis? it's the bodies 'reaction' to the amount of the pregnancy hormones in your body I've had two non HG pregnancies but my m/s with them wasn't typical but after HG much easier to deal with I've lost weight with all of them. It might have been because I was young with my first I was 19yo when I fell pregnant turned 20 at 12 weeks pregnant, DD3 I was 26yo which I don't think is that young.

How much weight did you put on/lose? I lost 10 kgs in the first half with DS and gained 10 kgs by the time he was born.
So far this time I've lost 15kg and gained 0 I'm 26 wks.
Was your baby born small? DS was average 3.5kgs.
Was your baby born earlier than 37wks? No 40wks exactly.
Also did anyone have HG but still miscarry? No
Why do you think you got hyperemesis?
having previous hyperemesis gravidarum - guessing that's why this time but i don't know why I got it the first time. My Mum and all her sisters had it, not that it was diagnosed as HG so I always put it down to that or being unlucky.

My son was and is so healthy, he was fine. Stuffed me up but other than that he was perfect.

Hey indigo, sorry to hear you're having a rough time :(

As for me:

How much weight did you put on/lose? I lost 25kg

Was your baby born small? No he was 8lb 4 or 3.74kg

Was your baby born earlier than 37wks? No he was 40+10 and that was after having dates moved back 3 weeks at the 20 week u/s

Also did anyone have HG but still miscarry? Not personally. My miscarriage was a really rough pregnancy but mostly due to me flaring up like I was allergic to everything, and being really physically uncomfortable the whole time. i don't know how to describe it, I just felt 'wrong'.

Why do you think you got hyperemesis? Both of these fit for me, I was 16 and about 100kg when I fell pregnant.
being of young maternal age
being obese

My second pregnancy I lost 25kg too but not through being sick - I just went off everything on an extreme level. I couldn't eat more than a few bites of food or I felt so full I'd throw up (so maybe it was, I just never tested it and stopped when I felt like that). No sign of it this time either, but similar to the second pregnancy I can't eat a lot and so far I've lost 7kg.

I have some more questions for those who had HG.
How much weight did you put on/lose? - DS1 - 0kg, DD2 & DS2 (twins) - 0kg I was put on Zofran at 5weeks with the twins, so only lost a little weight early on with them, and then bedrest from 32weeks helped me gain weight.
Was your baby born small? kinda - 5lb 13oz (for a 36weeker, not that small) and then 5lb 2oz & 4lb 15oz (small yes, but for twin 35weekers, not that small)
Was your baby born earlier than 37wks? yes, 36 then 35weeks, however DD1, I had bad MS, but not HG and she was born at 36 + 4. I had PE with her.
Also did anyone have HG but still miscarry? Nope
Why do you think you got hyperemesis? These are the some of the risk factors:
carrying twins - yes, but I still had HG with DS1. It was worse with the twins but still there.
having previous hyperemesis gravidarum - yup
being of young maternal age - nope, from 26-30 when I gave birth
being obese - nope, over weight, yes, but only just.

I don't honestly think ANY of those factors cause HG. Obese people can have 'normal' pregnancies, as can those carrying twins, my sister had HG with her pregnancies when she was older, mum didn't and she was 16. I honestly think it's the luck of the draw with how your body reacts to pregnancy and the hormones etc.

How much weight did you put on/lose? I lost about 9kg
Was your baby born small? No my gorgeous girl was born a healthy 3.56kg.
Was your baby born earlier than 37wks? Nope, I was induced at 40 + 2
Also did anyone have HG but still miscarry? No
Why do you think you got hyperemesis? No idea, I always thought I'd be one of those people that got really sick and I was right, it's actually one of the reasons I'm thinking about not having anymore babies :(

Hope you get some relief soon, it's horrible to feel so sick.

How much weight did you put on/lose?
I was 54kg to start with when I went to the hospital the night of her conception (not that I knew I was pregnant lol) and 45kg at the 36 week scan the day before she was born.

Was your baby born small?
No, she was born at 7lb 8oz at 36 weeks

Was your baby born earlier than 37wks?
Yes, 36 weeks, spontaneous labour and quick birth

Also did anyone have HG but still miscarry?
I was initially pregnant with twins but lost one. Not sure if that counts...

Why do you think you got hyperemesis?
No idea, wouldn't have a clue and didn't even know the name of the condition until just before she was born, it was always just called morning sickness by everyone!

I lost 10kgs in the first 12 weeks with my second daughter, and was in hospital a number of times for dehydration.

This one....the vomiting started last thursday, I haven't been able to keep anything down since then. I have already lost 5kg since last thursday...

The dr gave me a maxalon injection monday, but all that did was put me to sleep, and the maxalon tablets dont work at all. I am going to have to cut down my hours at work as I am unable to do much at the moment. I am dizzy from having not be able to eat!!:barf:

I lost about 8 kg in the first 5 months.. after that I gained back that weight plus another 20!! eek.
my risk factor would be that I was of young maternal age I guess.. and I know of at least 3 other young mums who were very very sick with their pregnancies like me, as in vomitting constantly all day and night, hardly sleeping due to being so nausious, being in bed constantly, not keeping down food or water, being hospitalized, maxalon not working one bit  not fun times.
I believe part of it was due to stress, at least for me... but i'm not sure if this is true.
also I did have a premmie baby although he was a normal ish weight

Thank you everyone for your responses.
My scan is on Sat morning, im hoping i see a strong heartbeat. I tried Seabands and they were great for the first two days then they didnt work. Yesterday was really bad. Today is great so far have had three dimsims (all i can eat comfortably) and half a bottle of raspberry lemonade. Lemon lime and bitters was the only thing i could drink but they didnt have any. I feel ok at the moment so am going to drink as much as i can to try and rehydrate myself as much as possible before the sickness hits. Its my Bday tomorrow i hope it stays away enough for me to get out of bed.

Glad you could keep something down, remember eat whatever you can, even if it's crap because something is better than nothing. All I ate was nachos for a week and that was literally half a dozen corn chips and a sip of diet coke. Not ideal but I hadn't eaten solid food for months so my dr was pretty chuffed. I hope your scan goes well, I'm sure it will put your mind at ease, feel better soon. I had a rough night last night and threw up on and off until 3am :dizzy:. Not much fun and I'm rubbish today but I do have my good days so I shouldn't complain too much.

If you ever need a whinge you know where to find me, always happy to help. Sometimes you feel a bit depressed and lonely being so sick for so long. It's good to get it out :hugs:

Aww Hun I hear you :( DH had to change most of his shifts so he was home as much as possible. I stay at mums for a weekend a month with DS so we all get some R&R. My son has never watched so much TV in his life than in the last few months. I feel like the worst mother at the moment. My son has to watch my be sick and now he plays games where all his toys throw up and he nurses them better. It's cute but I feel so bad.

I watch DH and my family with him and miss being so energetic. It's such a lonely feeling but just remember you're not alone, you are a good mother and it's not your fault. Do whatever you can to survive. I've had a few ppl on their high horse make comments about them being sick but still doing this, this and this. I just roll my eyes because it's not a competition and we all do what we can.

Before we know it we'll have our much awaited babes in our arms and it will all be worth it xx
