Hi all,
I'm hoping for a bit of advice on the best way to go about stopping my sons sleep association. Im bf him most of the time with formula at night.
Over the past few months he has been a great sleeper - sleeping through most nights and has been fairly reliable with his day time naps most of the time so it hasn;t really been that much of an issue. In the last couple of weeks, this seems to have gone out the window though. He completely depends on being breastfed to get to sleep. Previously this had been mostly the case during the day for his naps but now he has started waking a couple of times a night. I know he can;t be hungry as he is waking early on in the night eg 1-3 hours after going to bed after a bottle feed and that it is most likely the comfort of the breast that he is after.
Also, during the day he has recently dropped a day sleep meaning that he now has two instead of three naps. Before his mealtimes and breastfeeds worked in with his naps so that his breastfeeds were just before he went to sleep. Now he has dropped a nap I feel like we're all over the place. I have tended to give him a quick breastfeed to get him off to sleep as it s the easiest thing to do, even though he hasn;t been due for a feed at that particular time! I think I have made a rod for my own back with this as now I'm feeling a bit panicked about the whole thing and thinking that he will never go to sleep without a feed. I really wanted to wean in the next few weeks (for both personal and practical reasons) and feel like I'll never be able to do it if the situation stays the same. Sorry if this sounds a bit disjointed but hopefully you can get the jist of what I am trying to say!
Basically, I want to stop him being dependant on feeding/sucking from me to get to sleep and I don't have any idea how to do it.
Help please!
Thanks in advance
