Hi
I am posing this qn for my neighbour (pip) who doesnt have an internet connection.

Pip is due from AF in 2 days. She did a fortel ultra sensitive preg test yesterday afternoon which came up negative :crying: and cried for 2 hours (she has been trying to ttc#1 for 12 months). After 2 hours Pip picked the test up to throw it out and noticed a very very faint second line where the test line should be. It was so faint that you have to hold the test on an angle to see it but its definetly there.

Has anybody else experienced hpts coming up positive after the given test time period and could it be a BFP??? or it more likely to be a BFN (false positive) ???

Pips on a roller coaster of emotions at the minute and doesnt know what to make of the test results so we would love to hear from anyone who has been through anyting similar or who has any advice, Thanks!

:fingerscrossed: its a BFP for Pip!

Evaporation lines can come up after the time specified on the instructions have elapsed. She might be pregnant but it is pretty common to get evap lines when you look at the test after 10 minutes or so.:fingerscrossed: for her.

I was reading just the other day about how you cant trust preg tests after the time it says on the box. they get evap lines, and also the area where the line would show up is different material (or it would all show up pink/blue on a BFP!) and so it does look different if you look really really close. It could be a BFP, but I wouldnt get my hopes too up, sorry. I hope for her sake it is!:fingerscrossed:

I agree, most instructions warn to not rely on results after the recommended check time.. For instance I have to check my brand after 5 minutes and it warns not to use results after 10 minutes as they can be incorrect.

Get her to test again and to only check within the recommended time. I hope it is a BFP! :fingerscrossed:

ive had problems with preg tests...i took a test this month and one came back positive and then the one i did straight after came back neg...i think most tests are really unreliable but the only thing to do is a blood test...

Thanks for the great replies. :hugs:

Pip has decided to test again on Sunday morning if AF doesnt show and I will let you know of the result.

Ive used those tests before and not been pg.. but if the test is left for a few hours the evap lines DO appear.. I once CONVINCED myself I was pg cos when I tilted the stick it was pale but there in a certain light.. but I wasnt pg so yeh..

They do say on the box not to read results after a certain time.. like 10 mins or so.

:fingerscrossed: heres hoping she is PG, but please dont get her hopes up to high :fingerscrossed:

Follow the instructions and don't read the result after the specified time (usually 10 min). I would test again in a few days, as AF is not due yet and you would get a more reliable result after AF is due.
