After many discussions with my hubby and friends/family of what may be causing wind for my bub a suggestion was made that it could be foods that I am eating.

I am interested to know if anyone has any experiences with food that has caused wind for a breastfed bub? I have heard that broccoli, cauliflower and leafy veggies can. Any suggestions for foods to eliminate while breastfeeding to reduce the possibility of causing wind for my bub? Thanks

Hi i am just back from our GP and posed the same question - she said that peas cause wind!

Hope this helps!

I have done HUGE amounts of research on this!!

Chocolate - big cause of wind!!
Garlic
Onion
Bread
Tomato - ie pasta sauce
Orange juice

It's best to keep a food and symptom diary so you can see what triggers off your bub ...

for my bub cauliflour, brocoll, beans, cabbage, chocolate, too much dairy, 'fake' sugar like in sugar free lollies or soft drinks

Hi All,

Thanks for your suggestions, looks like no more chocolate and a pretty bland diet for me!!! (not that I have had much - half a peppermint slice with the hubby yesterday), but it could be what may be triggering it off).

A food and symptom diary is a good idea too, thanks! I have never heard of bread causing wind before, I might cut down and see what happens!

I second the food and symptom diary

also make sure you include herbs and toppings as well the reason I say this is garlic is a big one for my newest bub I had several horrendous nights with her very very windy and she's a farter rather than a burper and needed lots of help from me as we were adding it into everything for our older three to try to boost their immune systems after a cold. I now take my serve out then add in garlic.

Also I found some herbs with one of my older kids as well coriander I think was the worst offender with her but we don't have a big selection.

HTH

good luck

Anything can, different foods affect everyone differently.

I agree with keeping a diary.
