Were you after some more opinions?
Well we moved to a small country town 3 hours away from family and friends not knowing anyone here at the time. We have made some fantastic friends and we are now waiting to find out if there is another move on the cards for us.
This time it will be on the other side of the country 5days away from family and friends. We would have the bonus of already knowing one lot of friends in town as they are about to move there now.
Rentals are extremely expensive, and it is in a remote area.
I look at it as an adventure for us. I wouldn't even consider not going with my DH, I couldn't have him away for any period of time, the boys hate it when their daddy has to go away for a day or so a week now. But we have decided its time to start living for ourselves. The money is more than worthwhile and you will always make new friends.
It's a hard choice to make. I know it took me a long time to even consider this move. But now if we don't get it I will be extremely dissapointed.
I hope you find your answer soon!
Goodluck!

Unfortunately with this job DH will be living onsite mine. No family accommodation. There is housing in the town, BUT no rentals, only houses for sale and very expensive. I couldn't justify buying a home in an area I was unfamiliar with.
Don't know if you want to say on here, but where is the mine? I ask because it sounds an awful lot like where my DH works... PM me if you want... :)
Otherwise, I don't think I could handle the 4 weeks on 1 week off- to me thats just so much time away from the family... The longest Kev is away for at a time is 7 days (8 nights) and that is pretty much my breaking point... I guess if you have to do it you could, but like you said it couldn't be a long term thing IMO...
You would make friends with people wherever you moved to, (maybe me if its nearby!! :D )... but I understand the difficulty with moving somewhere that might not be a long term permanent thing...
Definitely a toughie and I'm pretty sure I haven't helped at all  ... Sorry... :o
