DS1 is 17mths old and is currently having 3 bottles a day, breakfast, lunch and before bedtime.
At what age do you start to cut down on the amount of bottles??

This sounds fine to me. My daughter was having 4 bottles a day up until about 3-4 weeks ago and she is 2 years 2 months. The CHN told me that she is having too much milk and she should only be having max 2 bottles a day but she was always eating food well. A couple of weeks ago she got sick and hasn't wanted the other bottles anymore so she dropped them herself anyway. She now only has one in the morning first thing. If your son is happy, contented and eating and sleeping well, i wouldn't change anything.
Good luck..

I dropped a bottle (from 3 a day) at about 17-18 months to 2 a day. I dropped the morning bottle. I still gave it to her every now and then over a few weeks, if she asked for it or if she was a bit unsettled.
I then dropped the lunch time bottle at about 22 months. She still has one bottle after dinner. (DD is 2y 1 month now)
DS is 18 months old and still has two bottles a day - one for breakfast and one at tea time also. He used to have three a day (one at lunch as well) but I dropped that one without any hassles a couple of months ago. That was the easiest to get rid of and I just replaced it with a sipper cup of water. He is still attached to having a morning and night bottle though and I am fine with that and will probably keep that up until he is two-ish.
It really depends on how much they are eating and how much they rely on it. DS1 loved his bottle and he was 2 before he gave it up.
DS2 is having two bottles one after lunch and one after tea, but he was quite sick a few weeks ago and went off his food. So till his eating is back to normal he'll stay on at least that many if not more, depending on how much he eats per day.

There is no "real" time as to when you should start dropping them.
Like some others have said it depends on how much they rely on it, how much they're eating etc.
My sons 20mths old and has around 4 - 5 bottles a day....sometimes more. he wakes alot through the night and only setlles with a bottle, through the actual day he'll have around 2 bottles.
I dont think theres anything wrong with them having bottles till they're 3ish, its all calcium so im not complaining :D He still eats a variety of food so im not worried...

My DS1 is 20 months and I have just spent the last day and a half taking him off the bottle cold turkey to no success. I gave in earlier today as he just refused to drink anything at all and I was worried he would get dehydrated. We have bought 4 different sippy cups from ones with valves to ones with straws and none of them he likes. He uses the bottle for comfort and because he has somes teeth coming through. I think I might start trying to cut out bottle feeds one at a time as cold turkey just didn't work. Any other suggestions.
