split gums

Hi,
my son is usually a bright and happy baby but the last week he has been miserable. He does have a cough so I figured it may be that, but I notoced today that his bottom gum has a slight split in, almost like a tiny hole...

does anyone know if gums split before the teeth come through?

Hey Betty
Kind of I guess...mine had a little 'cave-in' a day or so before his tooth opped through. It was like a little cross..but its hard trying to get a look in there....

thanks for the reply, I just always thought that the tooth would come through and the gum would split them,
it is hard to look in his mouth, but what I saw shows no sign of a tooth yet
