Cant find a kindergarten?

Has anyone found themselves unable to find a kindergarten place for their child?
We only moved to melb 6 weeks ago, I had a place at a kinder for 4 yr old next yr but they gave it away so now Im stuck with no centre that has vacancies!
Yes I know he can just do a kinder program at a daycare centre but I want him to go to an actual kindergarten like my DD did.

Where do you live?

Put your child's name down at all the local centres as they will probably have last minute cancellations.

they all have like 10 kids on waiting lists unfortunatly

I know the struggle, we put our forms in the same day they came out (back at the start of march) and got a place but a friend who did hers a a couple of weeks later missed out.

Is your DS's birthday early in the year or later, apparently in some areas they are gicing preference to older 4yos IYKWIM.

Get him on as many lists as you can though hun, many peole will give up a spot or not pay fees etc and you will hopefully be able to grab one.

Those kids on the wait lists are probably the same 10 kids though, so still worth putting your name down.

It is one of the hazards of moving, and it sucks, we move often and I had DS name down for 4 kindy's all over QLD, then we ended up moving to WA :rolleyes: We are lucky because kindy is part of the school system over here, so there are lots more places available.

Hopefully other states do that soon too.

He just turned 4 on wednesday

I would try and put him on as many lists as you can. A few weeks ago the best we had was 17th on a wait list and then we were called and offered two different places. Good luck.

Put him on as many as you can, in my council we have a centralised waiting list (in Darebin) and its horrible the number of children that miss out. H was offered a place next year and we have just knocked it back as he is in a daycare and the program they run is really good. So you never know some of those kids might be doubling up and once they sort their lists out you might find they have a place. Maybe give them a ring and ask when they have to confirm their places.
