My 20 month old son has had a chalazion (blocked gland, kinda like a sty) under his left eye for about three months. We feel like we have tried so many things to try and get it to drain but it's still there.

I have taken him to the eye specialist and she wants to cut and drain it under general anesetic.

We really dont want to have him under general when he is so little, does anyone know of anything else we could try?

We've tried heat compresses, rubbing a gold wedding band, lemon juice, oral antibiotics and an eye ointment.

Thanks in advance

Denise

Hello!
I used to get the horrid things all the time as a child, although ointment prescribed by my doctor always got rid of them. I felt as though my Mum was rubbing her wedding ring on me every other day!

Being the sensitive and important eye area, I guess that you'd better go with the dr's advice. I wouldn't worry too much about the anesthetic, as plenty of kids have it - much younger too. My eldest has had 3 (earliest she was 15 weeks) and is fine.

Best of luck to you!
