It's my first pregnancy and I was wondering if baby showers are the done thing? I don't know much about them and I've never been to one. What's involved and does everyone choose to have one?

I have been to loads, all different!! some high tea at a local place, others your traditional games and fun stuff, others bbqs for guys and girls!!
I think it is more of a way to celebrate and anticipate the upcoming arrival of the baby!!!
i didint have one with DD, but am thinking this time I might just do a high tea somewhere with the girls!!!!

My friends wanted to throw me one but I declined, I have been to a few and organised one for my mate and I can't stand them to be honest. The word 'naff' comes to mind when I think about the ones I've been to .
The one I organised was in a park, we played lots of different games for which there were prizes, I baked a whole heap of cakes and other people bought sandwiches and drinks, that kind of thing.
It's nice having everyone together to celebrate but I personally don't enjoy the games part of it. If I was going to have one I'd just have dinner or lunch with everyone and make it a relaxed thing so that nobody was pressured to organise games, prizes, slave over an oven while baking etc.

I've never had one and I've never been to one.
I've heard about them but they're not really for my friends and I:)
(I probably wouldn't even go if I was invited to one, it's of no interest to me what so ever:rolleyes:).
We're not into playing silly baby games, oohing and aahing over little baby clothes etc, it's just not our thing.
Each to their own though:)
They still are very popular.
They're not really my thing, so we had a variation, where both men and women were invited to celebrate the impending birth.
we had food/drinks, and did play some games - which everybody quite enjoyed as they were active games - like making a baby from modelling balloons (very hard...).
That's another thing that bugs me about baby showers - the fact that in a lot of cases, the guys are not welcome. I felt terrible for my mate's younger brother last year, he was the only boy there (he's 12). Every other adult and child was female.
Oh and while I'm venting about this...the amount of work that goes into baby showers is RIDICULOUS. I spent the entire 2 days before it baking, cooking and wrapping prizes whilst having to work nights. Then I had to be there 2 hours beforehand to decorate and stay for a while after to clean up.
Yeah, to me they're just naff. Rant over
We going to have a "celebrate our last nights of sleep" going to have a thing during the day and people can just drop by for a while when they can. Some food, champagne and balloons. :highfive:

never had one and do not like them. The only one I agreed to attend was for a workmate and she was just a greedy, selfish..... Anyway it isn't something my friends do. We normally have an aftrnoon tea or morning tea or something when bub comes and that's just a "bring a plate" type casual thing to get everyone together to see bub.

I love baby showers!!! I went to a close friends baby shower last year and had a ball. My Mum has thrown me baby showers for both of the boys as well. It's great catching up with friends, playing games and eating yummy food :)
