View Full Version : Why Is My Tomy Digital Monitor "Humming"?!

I have a Tomy Digital Walkabout Deluxe baby monitor.

We have been using it now for several months with no issues - it has been a truly great monitor & I Ihave recommended it to several people.

About 2 weeks ago, we were woken at 3am when the parent unit started making an electronic humming sound - quite loudly! The baby unit (thankfully!) is still silent.

We checked for interference, tried switching the channels, checked all the connections - everything we could think of & all to no avail! It can run on batteries, and we have batteries installed for events such as power failure, but we run it on mains power. Have tried taking the batteries out also.

Then after a couple of days, it just stopped - much to our immense relief!!

And the other day, it started again, and hasn't stopped! It makes the monitor totally useless as we can't have it switched on while it's humming.

I haven't yet contacted Tomy, but I intend to. I just thought I'd post here in case anyone else has had this problem with their Tomy or other monitor.

I have the same thing with my angelcare .. DH said it is to do with other electronic equipment in the house that is interfering with it.
I cant find the source of the problem though so I have just had to get used to the huming noise:banghead:

A friend of mine has a babay monitor (pretty sure it is a Tomy one too) and when it is plugged in in her kitchen, it will make a funny noise if she uses the electric kettle.

The humming noise on our monitor is not a background "interference" sort of a hum, it is so loud you just cannot have the monitor on at all.

We are positive it is not an electrical interference issue, as nothing changed from the second before it all started to when it began (which was at 3am!). This has been the situation both times.

Even still, being at our wits ends, we did check for any electrical interference, and it is definitely not the case.

The humming also does not ebb in & out like electrical interference (which we have also had from time to time on this monitor in the past), it is a constant, very loud hum.
