After reading a very inspirational story of an awsome photographer photographing a complete labor, I was wondering, would you be interested in having your labor photographed? I think it would be an absolutely amazing thing to look back on, but im not sure how many people would actually be keen to do it.

Here is the story...

I feel the same myhusbandswife, i only have 2 pics of me from my labor, wish there was more. But as a keen ameature photographer, i wasnt sure how many people would acutally like a photographer there with them through the whole experience.

I don't know if I would want someone else there to photograph me because I'm a very private person but there is someone on bubhub that does birth photography and she does some truly amazing pictures.

I have a few photos of when im in labour but i dont think i would be comfortable with an actual photogropher documenting the whole thing from start to finish. Just seems a little impersonal to me. JMO

 very for it, personally.

however i'm planning to just buy better equiptment (read: a camera that doesn't go blurry if the person holding it is slightly shaky:hair:) and getting one close friend to take pictures, the other close friend to film it. (not sure i'd want someone i didn't know there - but i'm the same around midwives, doctors etc:o)

i've done the same thing for several friends, and its just amazing for everyone involved afterwards when we get to sit down and re-watch the movie/video's etc :goodvibes:

Thats what I was thinking .... who would want a total stranger in there, and when do I stop when someone has been in labor for 24 hrs ! I would love to document it for someone but all my friends are now finished having babies LOL

I might just add it and see how it goes.......

My labour was photographed and I LOVED it. I look through the photos all the time. Some of the close-ups when DS was crowning make me marvel at my amazing body and the transformation that took place. The ones of me experiencing a contraction in the earlier stages with my gorgeous DH by my side rubbing my back give me little goosebumps :goodvibes: I'm so glad I had every moment recorded.

Oh and I didn't use a professional, my midwife took one every so often throughout my labour, and her sister midwife took the ones of DS actually being born.

Bellini ~ would have you considered a professional photographer if you didnt have the other people available ? If it was just you and your husband .

There is someone on BH who does it :bee:
Amazing work!! You do need someone available to mind your kids though, pretty much 24 hours a day near the time of the birth, which can be tricky...
She combines it with family + newborn photography as well, but isn't here too often. I'll linkie her on facebook :P

Birth is such a personal and intimate experience for me that I prefer to have as few people there as possible -therefore it would have to be someone I knew and liked or possibly even a professional whom I really clicked with (maybe someone who has done other photo shoots for my family who I have had more than one consultation with).

I could never personally have a complete stranger there taking photos though. I'm willing to sacrifice having a professional take them for that reason - the photos I have are by no means up to professional standards but they are truly amazing to look through, regardless :)

Hi girls

A friend alerted me to this thread. Im a photographer that specialises in birth photography, and obviously would recommend everyone do it  Anyway, not looking for any business or anything, just thought i would pop in and answer any questions if you had any :p

If i was ever good enough to go Pro i would LOVE LOVE LOVE to photograph a labour/birth - What a privilege that would be!!!

Having not gone through labour i think i am just trying to think of any excuse to witness one!!! LOL.

I think its a wonderful idea - with DD2 i had a nurse take photos through out the Csection and they are incredible i love looking through them! :)

Its the biggest honour! Im always so grateful to clients letting me into such an intimate space...and I love that they have all remained good friends after the fact. Something very bonding about sharing (and photographing) that experience together.

I will say that if you get a sensitive photographer to be there, its like just having a fly on the wall. We stay as inconspicuous as possible, as quiet as possible, as "out of the way" as possible. You will hear the click of the shutter (I never use my flash) from time to time, and if that noise is disruptive, then we stop. But I have had every single one of my clients say they never even remember me being there...just in case anyone was wondering what it was like. I speak for myself here (and other birth photogs that Im friends with in the states) when I say that I the comfort of the labouring mum is #1 priority at all times.

Oh, this is my passion, so tell me to shut up if I talk too much about it!

:iagree: Same here. The nurse and my DH took hundreds of photos of my CS and I never tire of looking at them :goodvibes:.

I wouldn't of wanted a photographer at my VB though.

plumptobump, your photos are gorgeous, really really :goodvibes:

I had seen in your signature that you were a birth photographer (TTC diary stalker here :o) and curiosity got the better of me about what that entails so I googled and found a couple of sites. One person from USA's blog has the most amazing pictures! I can see why people get them done, she does just home births from what I can see and they really are fabulous!

Will definitely be checking in on your blog again :)
