Hi
We had a 4d scan at 20 weeks and were told bub had legs closed but 95% sure it was a girl. I was so happy but for the last 2 weeks I have been hearing so many stories about how the ultrasound was wrong and now I can't stop thinking they have got it wrong. I have gone out and bout everything pink (right down to the bassinett) and the room is now purple. I just want to hear anyones story about ultrasound gender prediction. Has anyone been told the wrond sex and was it at 20 weeks with a 4d scan. I have booked another scan for in a weeks time anyway but can't stop thinking about it haha. I have a 2yr old son and was stoked that I was getting one of each sex:)

I haven't but my SILs friend was told girl and got a boy. I honestly dont think it's common though and 4D should be pretty accurate.

If you were having doubts I would have held off on buying anything.

I found out at 14+5weeks I was having a boy. Had my 20week scan which also confirmed boy. But I couldn't shake the feeling maybe it was wrong. I had my OB check at about 24weeks or something and yep definitely a boy.
I also had a growth scan at 32weeks and had them check again... Still a boy!!

Can you get your scan sooner to put your mind at rest??

I always thought that the sonographers were meant to tell you the sex if they were 100%. I'd be a bit concerned seeing the legs were closed, how could they tell??

Also do you have any scan pics we could see?? Maybe someone will come into the thread and be able to help and see what it is??

I was fine about it for the first 4 weeks but have just started worrying in the last 2... hence why i went nuts buying pink stuff.
I gathered they could see ovary's or something. And no... didn't get any in between the leg shots  The earliest I could get in is Friday but hubby isn't home till Tuesday so guess i will just have to wait

At my 16 week scan I was told that baby had it's legs crossed and the tech couldn't tell the sex. She sent me off for break to have a walk and try and get bubs to move. I jiggled up and down outside while DP had a smoke and laughed at me for 15 minutes  But when I went back she said she was *fairly* sure it was a girl. I remember her saying 'you don't get these lines with boys'.

DD is now 7 months old :)

I'm probably just being silly but I just can't stop thinking about it and thought this forum would be the perfect place to vent and hear everybody's stories

It's funny. We have found out the gender with all 5 of ours and with the boys (we have 3) I never had any doubts that the scans were correct. With DD I started out OK but really had my doubts towards the end and the first thing I asked when she was born was "Is she really a girl??" We have been told this one is a girl too and I have spent sooo many late nights looking at the scan pics and asking other people's opinions. Everyone assures me it is a girl but I don't think I will really believe it until she is born!

Hehe I am the same... for some reason if they had said boy I wouldn't have had a second thought.

I was confident ours was a girl from day one but couldn't even get a guess until 20 weeks (I saw the shot and it's was clear as day it was a little girl I was looking at) and my ob tries to confirm it for me at each appointment but I am still panicking that they all could be wrong-

All well if they are our little boy is going to learn to love pink lol

I'm nervous about the gender of our bub too ;) I got my Ob to have a guess for me at my 18wk appt and she thought bub was a girl. We had our morph scan at 20wks1d and were told definitely a girl. We got a good view between the legs and DH actually picked it was a girl before the sonographer told us. We clearly saw the 3 white lines and nothing else. I couldn't believe it. I was totally ok with it being a boy before the appointment and expected it to be a boy but now I know I will be devastated if they were wrong. We're having a 3D/4D scan on Saturday so I'll get them to confirm it then..... I'm pretty nervous

I always thought they didn't guess gender when bub had their legs crossed? My DS2 had his legs crossed at the 19 week scan and they wouldn't even attempt to tell gender.. I would be getting another ultrasound to double check..

Good luck.

Ive been worried over the same thing. Ive been told its a girl at 2 ultrasounds (one of them 4d) but i still cant shake this feeling that it is a boy.. With my DS, I never ever questioned him being a boy... it was clear as day in the ultrasound but this time i cant tell what their looking at... aww well... only 3 weeks til i find out... if its a boy i hope he likes pink:laughing:

My 4D scan was so obvious, even I could see she was a girl.

With my DD I was told 95% girl and it was a girl. With this baby I was told at 20 weeks, 90% boy. I had a 4D scan at 26 weeks and had confirmation that it is indeed a boy, the lady even pointed out the testicles and stuff which we could clearly see!

With this pregnancy DH and I both think its a boy despite the sonographer telling us its a girl at our 20 week scan. We have an Ob appointment tomorrow which will include a scan so we're going to ask again. I've held off buying overly girly baby items for now. With DD her legs were crossed at the 20 week scan so they couldn't tell me.

My bubs legs were closed, they said girl as they saw the labia, everyone said haha now that you have brought everything it's going to come out a boy! I said well if it does I have bigger problems as they saw a labia!! Haha!! I got my girl!

They were correct at guessing DD's sex but, I was only given 60% chance (the sonographer refuses to go any higher). We could see clearly that she was most likely a girl but I still had my doubts. My first question when she was born was also "Is it a girl?". I'm sure I'll have my doubts if they are correct this time too.

There is a vast difference in accuracy between 2D and 3 or 4D scans... and it also very much depends on the gestation as well.

I had my 2D scan at 20 weeks and they said almost definitely a girl. She had legs wide open. Then had a 4D scan done at 30 weeks, and again, saw it very clearly and I have a pic. Absolutely no doubt here.

Back in 1997 however, there were no 4D scans (not that I recall anyway). Just had the 2D routine one done at 20 weeks. We were told that it was a small girl. Bought a few pink things but not that much. When it was born, it was a 10 pound 5 boy!!! Which is good as we wanted a boy... but yes, a bit of a shock.

I think the 4D scans are highly accurate and the only thing preventing accuracy would be something like legs crossed or an object (ie leg) blocking the view.

Good luck!

Jac

If you're not sure I'd ask them why they think it's a girl/boy. I agree boys seem easier, I know when I had my other two they said it's basically presence or absence of something sticking out there ;) But we did get a shot of DD at 30 weeks where we saw her internal girly bits, quite clearly. I saw it and had the video of the u/s to watch back to check :) DS had no intention of letting us know. I'd think the 4D scans would be much more accurate though! Even with legs crossed they should be able to get an idea of whether there is a scrotum or not.

the 3d/4d scans are pretty accurate. we got told we were having a boy at the 20 week scan, and it was confirmed at the 27 week 3d/4d scan - although my bubs legs were crossed you could still tell that it was a boy

I think for gender, 2D scans are meant to be more accurate, coz u can visualize the bones etc with girls, they look for the 3 white lines which is meant to be the labia. With 3D/4D scans, they have to look for a nub or lack thereof..

When I was chatting with the technician bout the "guarantee" if it's a boy/girl, she said the weren't ever allowed to say they were 100% certain as there's always the teensiest chance they could be wrong.. So 95% is as good as it gets! :)

they told me 95% girl at 19wks, and again at 32wks :) will find out for sure in 3weeks!!

if the legs were crossed you cant be sure on a guess.Have another scan to be sure.My friend at work was having a girl but everyone said she was having a boy becuase of the way she was carrying and had like 2 4d ultrasounds to put her mind at rest.Hope you get what you hope for :)

Hi,

My obstetrician told us we were having a boy at a scan he did in his office at 11 weeks. He says he could tell by the way his legs were positioned. My husband was adament we were having a boy from that day although I was thinking, how can he tell that early. A boy was confirmed at the 19 weeks scan.
I don't think it's common to get it incorrect these days but sonographers usually do tell you it's not 100% accurate or at least they should tell you.

I have a feeling I am having a girl this time, can't wait to find out!

oh why don't you try the ring test and the chinese predictor. Both worked for me with my first pregnancy and both say the same for this pregnancy!

Apparently it is more accurate if it is a boy, easier to tell for sure. One of the doctors a friend of mine saw during her pregnancy found out for both of his and both times it was wrong.

I was told girl at the 19 weeks scan with my now 4yo DD. I also confirmed it with 4D scans at 22 weeks and 31 weeks just to be sure!

This baby I found out the sex at 16 weeks and also at 19 weeks. I'll get a 4D scan done at around 30 weeks to confirm again.
