I would love to have a baby shower as its our first, but our family and friends are all over australia and overseas. I thought about having a few small get togethers but realised we couldnt really afford to go to Sydney, Northern NSW and have one here in Brissy. Does anyone have any creative ideas for a 'virtual' Baby shower where people do not have to travel and we dont have to travel?

Does anyone have a webcam? Might be useful place to start. My DD's adopted 'Uncle' gets a huge kick out of "Virtual Babysitting" via MSN messenger. I set up my webcam and point it in the direction of the jolly jumper :smiliedance:

Perhaps people could post/email their best wishes and presents, and they could watch you open them? They could all take a live look at your growing bump!

Its the next best thing to being there, sure u cant give cuddles etc, but you get to see them having fun andbeing cute, watching them do their new tricks like rolling over and stuff like that, a good idea for anyone whith rellies over seas or anything like that, and because you cna do it over messenger only those u choose see it. another huge plus!

I dont have a webcam, but the msn idea might work for some people. Not my mum though, she still doesnt even know what the internet does!

A cheap webcam shouldn't set you back too much, and your friends and rellies don't have to have one to be able to watch you.

That's still not going to help your mum though  Do you have any computer nerd friends or relatives near her that could help out?

Just a quick update. My ideas for a virtual baby shower dont seem to be coming together. People are just too spread out. So I have decided to go down to Sydney and have a few friends over to a cousins house for nibbles. My mum is coming up for the birth so she can see me then. My OS and interstae family and friends have just decided to start sending me pressies now. So as a follow up I am going to send thankyou cards to all 'posted pressies' as well as the sydney baby shower people with photos of me at various stages of pregnancy, since hardly anyone has seen me apart from people on email. thanks for all the suggestions at least now I feel a temporary illusion of organisation... :D
