Thank you to everyone who replied to my last Pea Pods thread!
I returned the nappies straight away and exchanged for the medium size, no worries there...
I washed the nappies and hemp absorbers 3 times each before putting them on my boy... They seemed to fit ok, but THEY LEAK!
The first time, we were out doing the groceries and part way through, discovered his shorts were all wet... he had that one on for about 3 hrs all up, so I thought it was probably my fault.
The next one, he did one wee in it, and his shorts were wet!
I washed the nappies and inserts twice more each... today I used the hemp thingo as well as half a folded terry nappy, and it still leaked!(seemingly straight through the outer layer which is waterproof??)
Could I be doing something wrong? Is there some sort of special, secret or trick to pocket nappies?
...Or should I have just bought Green's instead?
Thanks! :D

I own some peapods, I have to say they do tend to leak, I try to change him after about an hour in them that way they don't leak. I also use the hemp with a micro fibre booster infront of it and that seems to make it last a bit longer with less leaks.
I wouldn't take him out in one I only use them when I'm at home and inbetween long nap times. My boy is a big wetter so I wouldn't leave him in them over night etc...
Someone else mentioned they use a better hemp booster than the one the peapod comes with and that works well, so you may want to invest in better boosters to improve the nappy.

The hemp can take upto 10 washes to reach maximum absorbancy. My DD is a very big wetter and doesn't really have any issues with them anymore. I don't tend to use the hemp in them anymore though. I've just been stuffing them with a folded microfibre cloth from BigW, I tend to get 3 good hours out of them with this. Good luck with it.

Thanks ladies!
I was looking at some micro fibre cloths at the supermarket the other day... might go back and get some!
Hopefully this will make them a little more useable... and maybe I will also put the hemp inserts through with every load of washing that I do this week, and see if they improve any!
Thanks again for your help

I found that if I used only the insert that comes with the nappies that they do leak, but I now always use a microfibre booster (that i picked up from the Weewuns site) and I can get around 3 hours out of a nappy.
I also use them overnight, but with another hemp insert and large microfibre booster (Green Kids).
I read somewhere on another forum (but don't quote me on this one) that although hemp is very absorbent, it sometimes doesn't absorb as quickly as cotton/microfibre. Meaning that if you have a big wee, it can't catch it quickly enough, meaning leaks. That is why sometimes using a face cloth, or microfibre insert may conduit or hold the wee until it is soaked into the hemp???? I know that personally I get better time out of my nappies (whether they be pea pods or green kids with a hemaproo) when I add a little something to it! Anyway - some food for though - I'm not sure if it entirely correct!! :smiliedance:

I had the same dramas. The PUL doesn't seem to be waterproof. The moisture was wicking through aswell. Even after 20 washes they would still leak. Not as bad if I had a Large hemparoo from GK in it, but still not that crash hot.
I find greens way better :o Sorry.

I haven't had any leaks with my Peapods. I use the hemp insert with a microfibre booster folded in half at the front. Seems to last 3-4 hours with no dramas. I haven't used the hemp just by itself - always err on the side of caution which may explain no leaks.
I only have Eenies and bumGenius to compare them with - they sometimes leak whereas the Peapods haven't.
I really don't know enough to give advice (I'm still on a steep learning curve myself) but good luck with them and whichever others you try!
