I'm confused.
I was talking to a friend about trueblood, she's only seen the show, I've only read the books (just started book 5)
How do the series go, like book to season?
Because some things she mentioned I'd never read and things I mentioned she'd never seen.
Who has seen and read them?
Explain please?!

The tv series doesn't follow the books too closely at all. You can read/watch and treat them as two different things. Well that's what I found anyways.

Yeah, I haven't read them but as far as I know, they're not exactly the same but I think it goes roughly each book is one season. So book 1 is season 1, book 2 is season 2 etc.
But yeah, it's pretty rough.
I've read all the books and am watching season 3. I've given up finding many similarities at all; even when they do introduce a character whose name you recognise, they're often not even remotely like the character from the book. They've just introduced werewolves, and they're so very different from the ones in the books.
Having said that, I'm really pleased they've done it this way. Firstly I'm not constantly comparing the two because I now expect them to be completely different, and secondly the TV series is full of surprises for me!

haven't read the books however a friend had and I just lent her my seasons 1 and 2 so she can record season 3 on foxtel. anyways she's a twilight fan all things vamp lmao but she said so far the books are totally different to the eps. she also can't get over how different they are "she thought they were going to sparkle"

The main storyline of each series is based on the main storyline of each book however they tend to leave a character out and give that storyline to a character in the show, or hybrid characters and/or storylines from two people in the book into one person in the show. Given the number of characters in the books, I can kind of see why they did it. I also suppose that because they books are always from Sookie's perspective they have to fiddle with the storylines so you can have subplots etc from other characters' perspectives.
They also have introduced things into the show that are never in the books and left out book stuff. Which is a bit frustrating sometimes! The only things I have hated so far is:
1. Bubba is not in the show
2. Claudine is BADLY cast
3. They have fast-forwarded a few plots that are crucial to future storylines and it worries me....
So ultimately they are quite different, but I do like that they have done it this way because it keeps me guessing (I've read the books about 15 times each!! A new twist is always fun).
I'm interested to see what they do with Season 4 since it's such a cracking book! :bee:
I don't care what happens..but I can bet your bottom dollar, Alcide Herveaux will always be a b_tthole....There is no jessica in the books, which is a shame, as she is the person I fall asleep wishing I wake up as....
Bill suxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, Eric is seski, Pam is delectable, Sam needs a frickin' life. Tara and Sookie are closer on TV, Lafayette died in Book one...Will Jason move out to Hotshot (yanno, not wanting to spoil things),m..not to mention that Godric was not Eric's maker (in the books he was a kiddie killer/pedophile)...
There are a lot of differences, but the two are like chalk and cheese. It makes both exciting, and us entirely wrapped in the little world of Bon Temps.

I've just started watching! Did two eps of season 1 - eeeeee exciting.
I'm glad I clarified they aren't the same cos it would have driven me crazy!
So it's good in that it's something new. I don't know what's going to happen or what's going to be different.
I gasped  oh no! What?!? What?!? At the tape of Jason and maudette! Huh?!? Didn't kill her? ! How's that work?!? What?!?! ...... Ooooh nevermind :o
So yeah good times ahead watching seasons 1&2 as our friend that's moved in gas them ! Yay!
I've been excitedly waiting for Bubba in season 3, is it in vain? :(
