I noticed that the Doula course with Childbirth International requires you to observe a birth class. All the birth classes I have seen cater (not surprisingly) for pregnant women - I'd feel pretty strange going to one on my own! Are there actually classes that are more suitable for doulas in training? Also, the classes I saw were fairly pricey ($200+). Is that normal? Am I just looking in the wrong places, or at the wrong type of classes? What have some of you done?

You have to inform the instructor as to why you are doing the class i.e. for certification and you go along to observe rather than participate if that makes any sense.
Yes private classes are pricy but if the instructor is supportive of your learning (which she may not be if you are going to pose competition) then she may give you a discounted rate.

Maybe you could find a woman who would like you to attend the birth classes with her? As her support person.

Yeah, I thought of that, but the women I know want to bring their husbands along, and I think I'd feel like even more of a third wheel, than going by myself :)
Any other trainee doulas in Sydney who might want to go to a class with me? Then atleast we won't be on our own :o
