Hi
Im not sure whether this is a teething question or a sleeping one but..
Last Friday my littles ones two bottom teeth started to appear. He was slightly cranky but nothing major - this was happening at the same time as he was dropping a sleep during the day so im not sure which was the problem.
Over the last few days he has been waking at night - he goes to bed at about 7pm and it is very unusual for him to wake up. A few days ago he started to wake crying, almost hysterically, at 8pm, 9pm and 10pm. He was pretty easy to settle back to sleep again each time and after the last time at about 10 he slept right through until morning. The last two nights I've given him some panadol because I fugured it must have been the teeth.
The two teeth have cut through the gums but aren't fully up yet - do they still go through pain after they have cut through the gum and are growing up?
I don;t want to be giving him medication when he doesn't need it but I also don;t want him to be in pain at night. Its so confusing when you can't tell what the problem is. Could it be something else making him wake up? He seems to be fine during the day and the teeth don't really seem to be bothering him then. Can it be that they get more painful at night??

hi there

my 11mth old is teething at the moment too, and shes terrible at night, i think that because their bodies are relaxing and they arent doing anything to take their minds off of the pain (like playing n crawling around) that it does get worse..... she is waking at least 3 times a night ... i feel for the poor little things..... it must hurt

oh and i dont think it hurts to give them some panadol at night before they go to bed, seems to make them settle easier and well i would want to take panadol if i was getting teeth...... but its up to you... i dont give it every night just when i think shes not settling, you will be able to tell the really bad nights fromt he just a lil bad nights

Bauers Teething Relief is wonderful stuff! The girls here recommended it to us and Oliver has been a dream with it! He hates the taste (tastes like watered down rasp cordial) but its brilliant for numbing his gums!

He's been sleeping and feeding like an angel again!

You can get it from the Chemist! :)

I was going to say the same thing. I find it's a good one to use first and see if that settles bub. As it is homeopathic, if you find it doesn't do the job you can still give panadol without having to wait hours for it to wear off  When Blair shows signs of cutting a new tooth, we make sure we give it to him before EVERY feed so it works best. Once tooth has cut and he seems to be over the worst of it, we cut it back and keep it handy for the next tooth.

This is the order I try with Blair:

Teething toys
Cold wet face washer to chew
Braurer's Teething Relief
Bonjela
Panadol
Nurafen (if really bad, as it is an anti-imflammatory and lasts 6-8 hours). Of course I only give this 4 hours (minimum) after giving him Panadol

He's 8 months and counting, so we must be doing something right.......

Good Luck!

PS I agree that distraction through the day helps to make them forget how much their teeth hurt!!
