Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone has had any experience at either Mitcham Private or Lilydale Hospitals in Eastern Melbourne. I have rules out Knox and Valley hospitals due to some comments posted. William Angliss in Upper Ferntree also sounds great, but am leaning to private due to the longer stay in hospital. Does anyone have any reommendations or comments about these hopitals?
I am 14 weeks pregnant and needing to book in soon - due 22nd February.:yelclap:
Lilydale Hospital doesn't deliver babies anymore and I'm pretty sure that it's being made into an old people's home (can't think of the p.c. way to phrase that - severe case of pg brain). I had dd at Mitcham and am having #2 there too and can't speak highly enough about the place. I know there has been other posts on the hospitals you mentioned, so maybe if you did a search of them you would find more information. Good luck with your pg.

Thanks Sare,
I wondered what was happening with Lilydale. I am moving back to Vic from Tas, making it a difficult choice without being able to do a tour!
Read some great things about Angliss, and also Mitcham.

I had Lukey at Mitcham Private and had the most fantastic ob - so lovely!
As for the care, some of the midwives were caring and attentive but I found that the majority were agency nurses who really didn't know too much (and had atrocious spelling but that's just a pet peeve of mine)
I had some problems after Lukey's birth (spinal headache) and they refused to even give me a Panadol for the pain. To be honest, trying to get any sort of pain medication (and I had a c/section) was like trying to extract wisdom teeth out of these people. It took my Mum coming in and demanding that my ob be called before I was given anything - the ob gave me pethidine for my spinal headache immediately.
I was also intimidated (unsuccessfully) into leaving early even though I had just been to theatre (again) and hadn't mastered b/f by the troll in charge. She told me they needed my room and that there was absolutely nothing wrong with me.
In saying all that I do believe that the hospital has changed operators since Lucas was born so maybe they've smartened up their act.
The room was lovely, the food was beautiful but the care was sub-standard - I had my first son at Birralee (Box Hill public) and their care left Mitcham's for dead.
