i have a friend who had a baby a few weeks ago and today she asked me how long it takes for your food to go through the milk? I honestly couldnt answer her question, i just said it depends as everyone is different. Well i was hoping to be able to give her a bit of a more structured answer.

Does anyone know the average time it takes for your food to go through the breast milk and what foods you had to avoid due to wind when baby was about 1mth old??

Thanks

With my daughter, I found that if I ate tomatoes she would have colic. She was ultra-sensitive to what I ate. DS gets very farty if I eat lots of tomato products (ie pasta with a red sauce) but he doesn't get the screaming colic like DD used to.

I always think it takes about 2 hours for your food to get into your milk - but then again with alcohol they say that your milk alcohol level is the same as your blood alcohol level, and if you have one drink, your milk should be alcohol-free after a couple of hours. So I have no idea!

I found that when my DD was newborn, she really objected when I had eaten garlic bread. I remember having some terrible screaming sessions. Thankfully now she is 4 months and it doesn't seem to affect her now. Also, If you have had alcohol, do you need to express the milk out before feeding next? Or does it just disappear out of the milk?
