Hi,

I'm 38 weeks pregnant and we've recently found out that bub has both his kidney's very dialted ... his belly was measing 34.6cm in diamater at a 35 week scan.

*my 2nd son's head was 35cm when born so I know I can birth 35cm..

My previous pregnancies were both fairly straight forward with both being born full term weighing 3.2 and 4.2 kilos (and both posterior).

The Doctors are suggesting and even pushing that I have a c-section ... I'm really upset and would prefur to try for another natural birth.

Their reasons for a c section are that b/c of bubs swollen tummy he may get stuck when coming out - which could result in him being squished, me having a major tear or ending in an emergency c section ...

I really don't know what to do. They are leaving the final call with us and it scares me like nothing else.

The decission has to be made on Wednesday - in the meantime - bub is getting bigger and bigger and I feel like I am running out of time to say that I'd like to at least try for a natural birth?

Also, b/c I have SO much fluid in my belly (b/c bubs kidneys aren't functioning) they've said I wont be able to start labour myself b/c he can't put pressure on my cervix??
SO I am basically a sitting duck ...

Does anyone have any advice or suggestion as to what they would do or what I could do?

My main reason for avoiding a c section is that I'll have a 2 year old, a 4 year old and newborn at home when I come home. DP can only take 2 weeks off and the thought of not being able to drive, to walk to the shops etc for 6-8 weeks terrifies me .. my kids are active and NEED to be outside and be running around etc .. plus ... I am very very keen to get back into shape and honestly think that if I cant be active from day 1 I'll end up with PND .. I was going for hour walks within a day of both my sons being born and for me .. it is really important that I be able to get back out doing stuff.

I've been so sick this pregnancy with kidney infections, chest infections, high BP, pelvis seperating which pretty much imobilised me for days .. I just cant keep going :( and have NO idea what to do??????

My DS also had dialated kidneys (still does) but they were functioning.

I ended up being induced and having a c-section, something I also wanted to avoid. To be honest, I found the recovery quite easy. DS was delivered at 1:57pm, and I was up and out of bed at 9am the next morning. I could only move slowly, but I had no issues picking DS up, feeding, or sitting.

I came home after 6 nights, and walked to the shops on day 8, which involved some big hills. It took probably twice as long as normal, and DF pushed the pram, but I was fine. I just got tired a little quicker than normal.

My Ob's rule with driving was when I could comfortable turn and check my blind spot and push hard on the brake in the case of an emergency, I could drive. That was 2 weeks out for me - no where near 6 to 8 weeks. I was completely back to normal 4 weeks after, but I took it easy till 8 weeks after just to be sure.

You will be able to go for walks, they just won't be as long or as brisk as normal for a few weeks.

C-section recovery isn't any where near as bad as some people make out...

I cant speak from personal experience (Ive had 2 v/b both resulting in 2nd deg tears) but my friend's first birth was vaginal ending with 3rd deg tears. She had/still has major complication from this (not vaginal but anal complications) so she had an elective c sect for her next baby. Her recovery was MUCH better with the c sect than from her vaginal birth.
You could buy post recovery short (like compression bike pants) to help with the recovery from c sect. Do you have any other family that could come stay with you? Or can you put your kids in preschool/daycare for a day or so a week?
