I guess the answer depends on how confident you are about the water supply. Given we are in Brisbane, we don't tend to have problems with pathogens that Sydney has had in the past but it is highly chlorinated. Due to this I used cooled boiled water for a long time until we were out of bottles and I boiled just in case of pathogens but the boiling and sitting gets rid of the chlorine.

I tend to just fill up drinking bottles from the tap and let the water sit for a couple of hours before I give it to my kids who aren't babies anymore and I am satisfied if I can't smell chlorine.

Not a silly Q - I wondered too!!
I ended up stopping boiling after I introduced solids and all going okay (a few weeks ago - she's nearly 7 months) However, although the water here is quality in terms of no pathogens........it seems to ahve a bit of grunge in it and is very clorinated (we had our own tank before we moved a month ago)........so I have a Brita water filter andwe all drink the water from that as hb and I dont' like the taste of straight from the tap either.
I haven't noticed any problems since i stopped boiling - I just figured that if she was having variety of foods + shoving everything she can in her mouth anyway - boiling water was probably a waste of time ;) But I agree it does depend on your local water supply - how much you trust it!

Hi! Our CHN says to keep boiling the water for 12 months. :) It is really annoying though - but I dont like the thought of my DD picking up any nasty bugs that her system isnt ready for yet!
But purified water would be fine.
