my 18mth old ds has a shocking nappy rash. it started yesterday in a small patch, so i stupidly put gaia skin soothing cream on it overnight..now the rash is worse and it extends right round from front to back :(
ive got hydrozole cream, sudocrem (for barrier) and pawpaw but they dont seem to be helping..
any suggestions? i cant bear to look at it, it looks so painful, poor wee fella :(
thanks so much

Hydro with sudo over the top. It will need a few hours to work. If its a nice day, send him outside nappy free.

Id lay off the creams for a bit. have no nappy time for as long as possible. lay down a heap of old towels and let him be bare bummed for a while... then use cotton balls and warm water instead of wipes and change nappies regularly... poor lil munchkin! I hate nappy rash... EDIT> oooh i just saw his 18 months, i was thinkin he was a little one... yeah id send him outside with no nappy..

thanks so much, its starting to get a bit cool here now, so ill do nappy free time inside the house (have hardwood floors so mess is not a problem)
do i apply the hydro and sudo at each nappy change?

Yep. I mixed them together in a container cause it's hard to get the sudo to stick to hyrdo

ooh good idea! thanks again :hugs:
Get desitin from the chemist. Its a stronger zinc based cream. It should clear it up within a day or two.

We deal with extremely bad nappy rash pretty much on a weekly basis. :(
If you can do nappy free time, that is the best. Otherwise covital is really good. We also have a special powder to put on top to make the cream stick otherwise the nappy rubs it off but I have heard of people using corn starch to do the same job.
Don't apply too much Hydrozole because it is quite powerful stuff. They only recommend it 2 (max 3) times a day, so you could maybe do it first thing in the morning and last thing at night.

Yep, corn flour will do the same job & pretty cheap.
You might like to go to your gp and find out if it is 'just' nappy rash or a fungal infection. DS had a bad infection at around two months. We tried treating it with different creams etc., but it was only when we got some prescription cream from the dr that it started to clear up. Oh, and no-nappy-time really helped too.

we use pinetarsol solution in the bath when the girls get nappy rash, its amazing stuff. It stinks a bit, smells like T-Gel, but it will take the sting out, and clean it properly without needing to wash. You need to leave them sitting in the bath for at least 5 mins. Just check with the chemist first in case you can't use it with fungal infections, as pp mentioned. It just makes them far more comfortable, and you can still use whatever creams etc as needed
My 4.5 month old has a horrible red bumpy rash on her lady bits and sudocreme was doing nothing, Gaia lotion made it worse. Asked the chemist and she said it was fungal so try canesten. Well after just one application it has improved slightly so yay!

Are you still breastfeeding? My son had horrible peeling nappy rash and after a few days of creams someone told me to put breastmilk on it and honestly within a few hours it was neatly healed, i was amazed

:iagree: I find having some nappy free time works wonders on bubs nappy rash.

sit him in a bucket of warm sea water (not just salt water but actual sea water). DD had the worst nappy rash you have seen (MIL let her sit in a pooy nappy for about 4 hours:banghead:) it was red, bleeding - poor thing screamed everytime she did a wee. Mum told me about the sea water thing so i sent dh down to the beach and i swear it was healed in about 3 hours - just a little pinkish.
Also agree the pintarsal works a treat aswell.
