 Thinking of invitations for my son's 2nd Birthday..

As we are in Melbourne, the weather is completely unpredictable, :( therefore cant do a pretty photo invite card ordered beforehand due to not knowing the weather..
Party will be outside in my backyard, thinking mid January start of February, so it'll be more likely we'll be having sunny weather. :sunshine:

What are some creative invitation ideas that can be prepared last minute (because of the weather)...?

I am able to deliver all invites by hand if needed...

Thought maybe i deliver a balloon to each house that I'm inviting with a balloon, which they have to blow up and POP to get the written and folded invitation inside...

What do you think? Please Help.. Any kind of ideas will be helpful.. What have you done? :D

Not really, there's still heaps of time to organize it, but i like to think of things beforehand... Lots of balloons and most likely a bouncy castle... Probably a bbq... So no theme really, just a massive gathering with family, friends and kids.

For my sons Naming day i did handmade cards that were really simple. I just got some cardboard cut it into cards put a strip of ribbon down the front and inside i printed the details on a sheet of vellum (translucent paper) and held the vellum in place by little star embellishments. You could get really creative decorating the cover though

I would not recommend doing last minute invites. People like to plan ahead and you may find no-one will be free to come as people with kids often have busy weekends and sometimes have multiple parties to attend.

I don't understand why you can't do the photo card. Someone I know's kids were born summer and winter and she does photo invites for both and we live in Melbourne.

Regardless of how the forecast looks we all know they get it wrong so you can never really trust the weather report. If you are having it at home you just move it inside if its wet. I have a small home but because I had a winter bub parties are held indoors regardless. If its a hot day you will find people will go inside to get out of the heat too.

Just had a chat to my sister, who also said, i cant invite people last minute.. and if i do it in Feb-Mar, the weather is guaranteed to be sunny.. So it looks like thats what i'll be doing..

People wont fit indoors, as ill be inviting around 50 people, i have a HUGE backyard, but my house is tiny.. Barely fits 5-6 people in the lounge.. Same with the kitchen/ dining...

Anyways it looks like i have the weather problem solved...

Anyone have any ideas for fun, creative invitations instead of the typical invite card...?? :flowerz:

I made DS invites this year. He's having a circus/clown party so I did 'Admission Tickets'. I put a small photoshoped photo of DS on there. It was cute.

I think the balloon idea is awesome!

For my baby shower I did exactly what TommysMummy did and they looked absolutely gorgeous. You can buy blank greeting cards (completely blank, not a single drop of ink on them), and decorate them yourself with ribbon, glitter or scrapbooking embellishments.

I'm planning to do the same thing this year for DD's 1st birthday - eBay has loads of cheap card making stuff. The only problem is it can be time consuming, especially if you're a perfectionist!

I also think the photo invite is really good as well! You can always get them done then jazz them up a bit more with extra embellishments :)
