Okay, pardon the stupid question, but when you have a baby that throws up all the time how do you know when they have gastro?

My DS has been throwing up copious amounts again after it having eased off a bit and is dirtying his nappy about 4 times a day when its usually just once. But other than that he seems normal - not floppy or lethargic and no fever. He's just become a very messy baby. (And when it happens at 4 in the morning after an unsettled night I'm less than impressed).

It just got me wondering how you tell when they have gastro and not just their regular reflux?

The nappy issues could also just be because he's started solids, (even though he's only getting a miniscule amount because gags and chokes on whatever I give him. :hair: )

Nappies are the give away for J. They explode, stink, send his bum bright red & he just screams non stop while pulling at his nappy.

If he does end up spewing it's more than liquid & has force behind it.

AFM - J gagged & choked when he first started solids at 6 months, we waited till he stole food before starting again at 8 months & were gag free. He just wasn't ready before than.

Yeah, I think its gastro because he ticks all those boxes right now and I feel a little queasy.

I also think with the solids he isn't ready yet. He's grabbing at food enthusiastically enough and tries to steal everything I have, but he still has the tongue thrust reflex and any kind of puree comes straight back out, or he gags and then throws up.

DD downed everything like a champion, she was so keen at 6 months. Funny how different kids can be.

Thankfully Neocate is a complete food so there's no rush to get solids into him, I guess.

If you feel sick, I'd say gastro.

Gibe solids a few weeks & start again. Can always try him with a steamed carrot stick to see what he does with it.

That's the good think about neocate & the like. Their a complete food.
