Only just saw your post sorry:o

Port Douglas is a resort kind of township. If your an adult theres plenty to do but a 20mth old child could be a little harder.

Theres the beach.

Theres a tourist train that goes around certain areas of Port.

Depending on where you are staying there are places that have special activities for kids I think they are aimed at toddlers.

She might like looking at the boats at the Mariner where there is also a shopping arcade

Theres one street of shops to wander through

There is a bird world at the turn off to Port Douglas, kids love that sort of thing sometimes.

Hartleys Creek (crocodiles, kangaroos, koalas etc) is about 20 minutes out of Port Douglas heading back towards Cairns.

Hope this gives you a little help
