View Full Version : Could I be pregnant already?
Hi. I’m 25 years old and had a missed miscarriage (baby stopped growing at 9 weeks but I didn’t find out until 15 weeks) I had a D&C just over 7 weeks ago now which went well and I only spotted for a few days afterwards and have had no pain, but I still haven’t gotten a period yet. I have been having light, brown spotting on and off for about a week and a half and have been having loads of pregnancy symptoms…nausea, headaches, tiredness, bloating and this strange metallic taste in my mouth which I got last time I was pregnant. My husband and I have been intimate 2 weeks after my D&C. I have taken 2 preg tests which have come back negative but I know last time I was pregnant I didn’t get a positive till I was 8-9 weeks along so it might be too early to get a positive? Just wondering am I pregnant or is this normal after a D&C? Would love to hear your thoughts and stories.

You could be pregnant. I fell pregnant a few weeks after a D&C - never got a period.
Maybe get a blood test to see for sure.
Good luck :)

i agree with a blood test to see especially if you say you dont get a positive til 8-9weeks
Good luck =)
Thanks for the fast reply! I went to the doctor a few days ago and he just made me do a preg test and referred me for an ultrasound but that's not til Friday next week! I guess I will just have to wait and see. Will do another hpt on Tuesday.

Good luck and let us know how you go =) all the best.
Did a HPT this morning which was a BFN! I had D&C done 8 weeks ago now and no sign of AF! What is wrong with me??!! :(
I didn get AF till 3 months after D&C I was breatfeeding for one of those moths but I had returned to fertilty obviously to need the D&C. It can sometimes take a lil while for ur body to get all its hormones and stuff back on track.
So did another preg test Friday morning which was BFN and went in and had my ultrasound done that afternoon. I asked the sonographer if she had found anything unusual but she told me that I had to discuss my results with the doctor! Dammit! The results won't be at my doctors til Tuesday sometime so I guess it's another few days of waiting! :hissy:

I had a miscarriage on the 22nd December 2009.
Found out I was pregnant on 13th February 2010.
Going by dates and calculations it looks like bubs was conceived around the 16th January.
It can happen that quickly:)
I hadn't had a period in 85 days when I fell pregnant with the baby I lost and so was expecting another long wait to conceive. The doctor told me that some woman are extremely fertile after a miscarriage and as it turns out, I'm one of those lucky woman.
All the best hun:fingerscrossed:
So I finally got to have my ultrasound on Friday and got the results yesterday. Nothing unusual was found but there was a corpus luteum on my left ovary (which might explain the constant dull pain I've been experiencing on that side for the past 3 weeks!) Not quite sure what it is or what it means though as my doctor didn't explain it at all. Still getting metallic taste in my mouth and have gotten a bit thick around my waistline. So it feels like I've taken one step forwards and two steps back! Does anyone know anything about this corpus luteum thingy??
Hi,
I am sorry for your loss. I am in a very similiar position to you. I had a D&C earlier this week - i was 9 weeks. I also have a cyst on my left ovary. The ob said it was a simple cyst .... I believe it is a corpus luteum which is a cyst that occurs during the first trimester of pregnancy. It usually resolves by the end of the first trimester. At 8 weeks mine measured 4cms. The Ob said it was fine and would go away by itself. I had a bit of discomfort on that side so it wasn't a surprise to find something there. I haven't had any pain for about 2 weeks so I think it is going away.
I have done some reading over the last few days and I think it usually takes 6-8 weeks for your AF to return after a D&C and there needs to have been no bleeding (including spotting) for three weeks for the bleed to be considered AF. I was a bit disappointed to find all this out as DH and I were hoping to TTC again ASAP but it may be months away.
I hope you get some answers from your dr. Good luck!!
I'm sorry for your loss too. :hugs:It's a very hard thing to go through. I guess the thought of being pregnant again has given me a bit of a distraction but now it just looks like my body is playing tricks on me! :( I know how you feel about wanting to try again soon.
I did read that it takes that long for AF to come. I only spotted for a few days after my D&C and it has now been just over 9 weeks since I had the procedure done and still nothing! I get cramps like it is thinking of coming and...nothing!
I googled a bit about the corpus luteum and this is a bit of what I found....
The corpus luteum is what is left of the follicle after a woman ovulates. After a woman ovulates, the corpus luteum only lasts for about 12-14 days unless it begins receiving HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) from a developing embryo. If the egg is not fertilized, the corpus luteum dies and progesterone production stops. When progesterone levels drop, the uterus lining stops thickening and is consequently shed during menstruation.
If the egg is fertilized, the corpus luteum will begin receiving HCG from the embryo. HCG tells the corpus luteum to keep producing progesterone. The corpus luteum lasts for about ten weeks after ovulation. After ten weeks the placenta takes over progesterone production through the end of pregnancy.
So is the corpus luteum that was found on my ultrasound from my pregnancy or is it a new one? (Not sure how long it takes to go away after a D&C) If it is a new one does that mean I have ovulated? I have only started feeling uncomfortable on the left side for about 2 weeks. Maybe AF is just around the corner:fingerscrossed: I hope AF comes quickly for you Brynn. Keep me posted. It's nice to talk to someone in a similar situation.
After reading the info from google I am thinking that the cyst can't be from your last pregnancy because you were 15 weeks when you had the D&C and that was 9 weeks ago. So that only leaves the possibility that you are pregnant now or the cyst formed during ovulation but will go away if you are not pregnant which should mean you will get AF in the next fortnight. Damn it's all confusing. This was my 3rd pregnancy (I have a 4 year old and a 2 year old) so really I should know all this but the last two were textbook so there was no need.
There are a few threads on here about pregnancy loss and the women there are a wealth of info. I have asked a few questions about TTC after a D&C and after reading the responses (plus my own online research) DH and I have decided to ignore the OB and will TTC before I get AF. Am feeling so much happier now.
Have you booked another appt. with your GP?
Pregnancy is way too confusing but that's what I got by reading the google info. My stupid doctor didn't even tell me that they had found a corpus luteum and he just said that I need to ovulate to get AF! So he was suggesting that I hadn't O'd but doing my own research suggests that I have?!
I don't have a regular doctor because I can't seem to find one that actually wants to help. They all seem too quick to want to push me out the door! I've found way more information by researching myself. So I guess I will just wait until my D&C checkup at the hospital in 3 weeks time. They at least know what they are talking about and can give me some answers!
I am trying to get pregnant with my first and I didn't want to wait for my AF to start trying either. There is nothing saying that you have more chance of miscarrying if you don't wait and lots of people have had successful pregnancies! Will hopefully find out whats going on in a few more weeks. Until then I think I just need to relax.
OMG I have a really swollen uterus! I'm a very small framed, petite person (155cm and 45kg) and just this few days I have just ballooned in my stomach! I am bigger now than when I was 12 weeks pregnant! I haven't gained any weight, if anything I lost a kilo in the last week! I don't feel bloated or anything! I'm really starting to freak out now! Is this a phantom pregnancy or something?! I'm going to call the hospital tomorrow and see if I can have my checkup a little earlier. I'm really at my witts end with all of this!

Have you done a urine test Jaci84?
Sorry to hear that things haven't settled back to "normal". I am sorry I don't have any answers. I would definitely try and see a GP or the Ob at the hospital. I have my fingers crossed that it's nothing serious.
I managed to book an appointment with a gynecologist at the hospital for Thursday next week, so hopefully I will get some answers then :fingerscrossed: midwifemum - I have done 5 urine tests with the last one being a week ago at the doctors (all negative)
