hi, i have to get a spot removed from my breast ,its looks like a melanoma and i saw a skin cancer clinic today, he wants to cut it out with about a 4 cm incision right next to my nipple, the spot is only about 5mm wide, and right next to the aeriola,, i told him im still feeding my baby around 6 times a day on that side, and will it interfer with feeding, like the stitches being so close to where she latches on, i would tend to think there would be sum discomfort ,if not alot,, but he shrugged off the questions i was asking him.and made me feel unsure he would do a good job.
i then saw my doctor who recomended another skin clinic,, so i will get another opinion untill i feel comfortable with the doctor, but has anyone out there had a spot removed on their breast ,and did it hurt and interfere with feeding?considering i will be feeding her within 4 hours of the surgery? i think a pump will stretch it more than she would.
also i dont wanna go seeking out horror stories , but do you think skin cancer clinics are the best place to get them cut out,, as far as cosmetically looking the best they can, or do they just hack them out??

Hi Abbynmonique,

I have no answers for you, but maybe you could express before your surgery and then try to wait a few hours before expressing gently by hand?? Just remember not to squeeze your nipple, but rub UP from underneath it, if you squeeze the nipple you actually close the ducts. :O

I hope everything goes Ok for you and it all heals up fast! Aloe Vera is great for healing wounds fast!!! You could ask if its okay to put that on it.....

Cheers,
Kat

Hi Abbeymonique,

I've had pretty good experiences with my local skin clinic when I've had BCC's (basal cell carcinoma's - the least dangerous type of skin cancer) removed from underneath each of my eyes - one has left a bit of a scar - probably because I left it a bit long before seeing the skin clinic about it - but the other you'd never know I'd had anything done.

If you don't trust the Dr you saw, I'd go to another Skin clinic ASAP - you don't want to muck around if it's a melanoma.

I wish you all the best

You could ring the ABA too and see what they would suggest. I don't think it would be a good idea to feed until you have feeling in the area - it would be too easy to stretch the wound otherwise I would imagine. Also there could be chemicals left from the anaesthetic or antiseptic or whatever. I think you definitely need to talk to someone who knows about the bf side of things since the skin clinic guy obviously doesn't know much! :hugs: I hope it all goes ok.
