Yuck....the smell of hemp

I love my Green Kids but.....they smell! DD is fine when we just use the microfibre so I have nailed it down to the hemp. It is really really smelly....even when washed out the smell is weird but bearable but when wet its just gross! Does anyone else have this problem at all? I know I am used to the disposable smell but this is really on the nose.....its ok for night as I use the hemp and the microfibre but during the day its too much....besides that we are only using the microfibre for day as its much trimmer and seems to do the trick.

I find when dd has wet her nappy that , yes, the hemparoo gets a distinct smell. But its not revolting or anything. I just know its wet. When they are clean & dry they are fine.
Do you wash in hot water? Maybe give them a wash with bicarb soda?

Give the hemp a few washes in hot water with no deteregent and a little bi-carb like poshandbecks said. Hemp always has a bit of a smell when wet but i don't think it should reek or anything. Sunshine might do the job too.

Ok it sounds like you have a detergent build up give a few good washes in hot water without anything bar white vinegar to rinse through so put it into the area you would normally put your fabric softener then out out in the sun to dry & in no time you will have a non-smelly hemp insert !

From now on when you wash your nappies use the vinegar in through the rinse you will find this will stop this from happening in future.

umm I didn't think that vinegar was good for the PUL ..?? its fine for help .. but doesn't it eventually damage the PUL???

veve- i think we are just talking about the hemparoo, definately not in with the nappy. Is that what you meant Allyoo?

maybe just vinegar for the hemp? I really don't understand, they have only been washed maybe total of 8 times...maybe its just the distinct hemp smell I'm not used to..it is pretty strong though, like noticeable...my hubby pointed it out this evening...he said 'geez something smells around here' and it was the hemp, she hadnt drenched it or anything....

Maybe it has something to do with the particular kind of hemp? My BB nappy reeks when it's wet but my homemade hemp boosters arent' nearly as bad and they all get washed together. The smell is pretty yuk though isn't it? :yes:
