My brother in law recently gave me his shepherd's pie recipe and it has been a success - good for baby, toddler and parent and you can hide lots of different vegies in it!

1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 onion, peeled and chopped
500 g finely minced lean beef
1/2 cup grated cabbage
1/2 cup grated carrot
1 zucchini finely chopped
2 tablespoons plain flour
1 cuop of beef stock or water
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
4 potatoes peeled
1/4 cup milk
15 g butter
1/2 cup grated cheese
1/4 cup dry breadcrumbs

Preheat oven to 180 C
Heat the oil in a large frying pan and saute onion gently until it is soft and translucent. Add the beef, breaking it up and cook over a medium-high heat until brown and crumbled. Add cabbage, carrot and zucchini to beef and stir for about 5 minutes. Stir in the flour and cook, stirring for 1 minute. Add the water/stock and parsley and bring to the boil. Simmer, stirring, for about 5 mintues until mixture thickens, then cover and simmer gently for about 30 minutes.
Boil, drain and mash potato until smooth then add milk and butter. Spoon beef mixture into deep pie dish, layer the mashed potato over the top, mix together the cheese and breadcrumbs and sprinkle over the potato, then bake in the oven for 15 - 20 minutes or until golden.
For a baby - puree, mouli or mash.

For adults a dash of tabasco sauce adds a kick (and a glass of red accompanies it well!) You can freeze this dish or servings of it.
