Townsville private hospitals - Mater or Wesley?

Hi all,

I'm not not how many people have had babies in Townsville, so was just wondering for those of you who have been at either the Mater or the Wesley what were the pro's and con's of your chosen hospital?

Hi kriscee. I had my DS at the Mater here in Townsville. It was great. I didnt have a natural birth but the the help from the mid wives during my stay was excellent.
I had a private room and the food was good! :thumbsup:

BUT, for anyone else not in the know.....

Townsville now only one private hospital option for birthing s from July this year (2007). I have been told by a few in the business that Wesley is the best choice hands down, but now there is no choice and Wesley/Mater combination based at the Wesley is now it.....

Can't wait for the birth centre at TTH to get going....:yelclap:

The Mater has actually bought out the Wesley and it is now just a maternity hospital.

I went to Wesley for all 4 of my boys and would highly recomend them

Same - except my was natural - can't recommend it enough!

a few of my friends have had their children at Mater and Wesley...

They couldn't complain about any of them. But i think Mater maternity ward will now be at wesley.

I have decided to book into the Wesley - all of my friends couldn't find a thing wrong with it so I finally decided on that one.

They all say the staff are excellent. :)

I went for pre-admission the other day and had a look around etc. I was also talking to the maternity supervisor about the Wesley/Mater merger and it hasn't actually happened yet (as in the staff haven't moved over from the Mater). It is supposed to happen later on in the year. So for now, you can still choose to go to either the Mater or the Wesley to give birth.

Although they are going to be changing over to the Mater award when their contract runs out with the Wesley (pay, conditions etc). That won't be until next year from what she is saying.

She also said that they would be keeping the code of conduct, values, guidelines etc. that are already existing at the Wesley.

At the moment it is still operating with other functions besides maternity also. I'm not sure of the timeframe for it to change to purely maternity.

Oh well, I will find out for sure how the hospital is next week! :thumbsup:
