Mimicj - White spots on the nipples "can" be thrush....yep, seems like the wrong place to get it...but that is what it can be. Usually accompanied by shooting pains in your breast and white spots or clumps in your babes mouth too.

The blocked ducts....I get them often as I exc express. I jump in the shower with the water as hot as possible and hand express, then I jump out again and get the electric pump onto them...THEN if they arent gone I get Oliver to have a suck....that usually clears them up.

Just keep a eye on them, as I noticed in your other thread you said you had already gotten mastitis, so you dont want it to reoccur.

:hugs:

Hi mimi,

I have suffered from blocked ducts. Make sure that the ducts are unblocked[ it is very sternuous] but you have to. I had a lot of pain and malaise so drain your boobs at regular intervals. This is my two cents worth.

Love.

Regarding the white spots on you nipple, I will share my experience with you.

I kept getting a blocked duct which I could not clear after hot showers, massage and feeding from that side first all the time. On day 2, I noticed this white spot on my nipple and as I hand expressed, it seemed to get bigger. I scraped it with my fingernail and milk poured out; I got about 50ml from the one hole alone.

Went to doc and he said that milk had dried up in the hole and created a blockage or milk pimple. Nothing to do but keep feeding from that side first until it clears; the milk pimple took about 3 weeks to finally clear up but was told that thrush can also cause this to happen.

However, as PP's have also said, white spots/blisters/peeling skin all over the nipple and aerola generally indicate thrush.

Go and see your Dr (if b/f friendly) or MCHN and ask their advice.

Good luck!

Thank you so much-that is exactly what is happening to me. I just this morning noticed that I'm all blocked up again. The white spot is still there and has been for about a week. It seems to be worse this morning. I am fairly sure that is isn't thrush. It does seem to be dried milk blocking a hole. How do I unclog it? I am glad to hear that it took 3 weeks to clear, I thought I was not normal having this white spot for a week. :)
