Hi - has anyone had any experience with eithr Mater or Wesley Private. I am currently 6 weeks pregnant and not sure which hospital to go to.
Interested to hear what you thought of the rooms - are they private? Nurse care? Food?
thanks:)

I had my daughter at the wesley

it was hard to find a private OB/GYN who delivers at the wesley . i had to pick one out by the time i was 7 weeks pregnant and most were unavailable. I had pretty much only found out i was pregant a couple of weeks prior to having to arrange everything. The service with the OB was good . I got on really well with him but he was never around on public holidays. Pity Cierra was born on anzac day huh!! anyways..the maternity ward in the hospital itself is massive and it feels really cosy and comfy. I liked it in that respect. they had great antenatal classes and i felt like i was getting to know alot of the midwives and nurses around. BUT when i went into labour and arrived there I felt like i was under pressure to have my baby a certain way, like lying down in bed and hooked up to monitors and the like. ( then again opted for a drip so i couldnt really move around much anyways)

once C was born i didnt recognize any of the midwives that i had met b4. They were rotating shifts like you wouldnt believe and every few hrs a new middie was popping in to check up on things. They never talked to one another and kept asking me the same questions! I was that tired of it i swear i think i got up one of them!! the midwives wre my main prob with the wesley as they all had conflicting advice with breastfeedng times and positions to hold baby. I didnt know what was working. One middie got really mad that my family hadnt left the wards after visitation hrs were up! and then when i called for help re: Cierra she held a grudge against me for not kickn them out sooner for me to rest!!

anyways . The wesley is really nice , there are great areas to sit and relax and walk around to when youve just had bub and generally the atmosphere was good. Its a good choice if youre definately sure you would like to go private .

 best of luck with your bub

I gave birth at Sunnybank private, They were very good, and let hubbies stay with you in hospital, some rooms have double beds. I only had a problem with one midwife. she was all about me resting and not worried about new bub that wasn't latching on properly.:)

Something that might be important to you is donating cord blood. This would only be possible at the Mater.

Cheers

I went to the Mater Private and loved it, the birth suites were really nice and had everything that you would need including mats, beanbags, birthing balls, oil burners, cd player, tv etc. The midwives were nice too. I had a nice private room with an ensuite and little dining table. DH stayed with me the whole time and slept on a recliner next to my bed. The food was nice too.. and ooo much of it! There was brekky at 7am, morning tea at 10am, lunch at 12 noon, then afternoon tea at 2pm, dinner at 5pm and supper at 7pm.. I think I weighed more coming out that I did going in!! I got on well with all of the middies and really couldnt fault the care I got. I put bub in the nursery the first 2 nights as she was really mucousy from being resussetated, and I was nervous about sleepingbecause she was caughing and gagging all of the time.. but the middies in the nursery were lovely. In fact I didnt want to come home!!
