SIL is due in a couple of weeks, and I need an awesome gift for when bubs arrives.

When DD was born they gave us a Tonka Truck (yes I know she's a girl, but she loves it and plays with her truck more than her dolls anyway) We've been using it as our 'yard stick', I'd put her next to it every week, and take a photo to see how much she had grown.

We want something of the same sort of calibre to give them but I'm stumped, I can't give them a Tonka back as it will just seem like I'm being unoriginal. I'm making them a blanket, but I still want something else with a bit of thought behind it. The best I can think of at the moment is photo frame or keepsake box with bubs' name engraved on it.

Any thoughts from you lovely ladies (and gorgeous gents?) would be appreciated.

Ta much

A friend gave me some lovely towels and face washers with my twins names on them...I know it is a simple gift but I just love them and everytime I wash them with their name stuff I smile....

On the tunka truck front...that was a great idea, I got my boys the big ones for xmas with first xmas and their names engraved on them.

Why can't you get her a Tonka Truck. It could be a family tradition- by the new addition their own tonka truck. :D Awesome! Even get their name on it. You could mark her height on the truck as a keepsake and suggest SIL does the same. :) I LOVE it!

Thanks ladies for your replies, i was just about to do a shameless self bump anyway....

I had though of towels etc with the name on it, but i really wanted to bring them something in hospital the next day, so it wouldn't give me much time to get anything embroidered...

I've just finished making a blanket with a tonka truck on it (which i'm pretty proud of as my sewing machine scares me and we don't usually get along) and as soon as i find out the newbies name i'll sew that on too (providing its not too long, which i dont think will be the case, as we all have a 12 letter surname, so first names are usually short)

I had thought of their own tonka but i dont know if SIL's dad will have already bought one as he's an excavator driver, and has already mentioned buying the truck, digger etc.

Still a little stumped, i'll try and see if he's got the truck already and i'll just keep my thinking cap on for the next week or so....

What about one of those personalised teddy bears with the date of birth and name I think it is on them?
