 I am thinking this is a really stupid question  but i am really not sure.
When a tooth is starting to come through does it break through on the front flat part of the gum or does it break through on the bottom of the gum where you bite. I hope this makes sense. My ds is just over 6 months old and is teething and when i rub my finger over the gum that is touching the lip i can feel a sharp lump, is this the tooth trying to cut???

It varies depending on the space available for the teeth. Most of the time, for front teeth, if you think of the ridge as a speed hump, they'll come through a bit forward on the hump.
Usually you'll feel a bit of a lump where the tooth is, the area is a bit reddish, or it may have a slightly white tinge to the gum as it's being stretched by the tooth coming through.

I am so glad you asked this question, DS looks like he is getting his first 2 teeth but they look like they are coming through right at the front of his gums not on the top part of his gums IYKWIM. Is this the way it should be????

Emma has just got her first tooth:yelclap: Her gums were white when I looked at the and the tooth broke on top of the ridge of the gum.

I don't think you've got anything much to worry about, just wait for them to come through completely, chances are they'll come through correctly. In any case, the only time you really need to worry about baby teeth is when they completely fail to form (but if that happens, bub usually has some other problems on top of that that are more worrisome).
