View Full Version : Crawling & floorboards......
Not sure where I should post this, but this seemed like a good place!
My son has only been crawling for a week, and already his knees are covered in bruises due to the floorboards in our house  . We do have a rug in our loungeroom, but of course he chooses to move anywhere but on the rug.
My question is to all those out there in the same situation.I am aware it is a silly question, but apart from those knee pads that you can buy, did you find any other way to reduce the impact on those little knees? It doesn't seem to bother him at all - but it bothers me, especially as I am reluctant to put anything other than long pants on him for the fear of people looking at his knees and thinking the worst :( .

We have floorboards & MJ also had bruised knees. I never got the pads or anything, just put long thick pants on  Its worse when they are walking (Or in MJs case running) around the backyard & fall & skin their knees on a daily basis :crying:

We have floorboards and DD never bruised herself when crawling.
But I know when I used to get down on the ground and crawl around with her, wow it hurt so much on my knees.
I read that babies bones are not formed in their knees properly when they are at the age of crawling, thats why it doesnt hurt them.
So I dont know what you can do sorry.

We have tiles all through our house and we were worried Blair would never learn to crawl as he just kept slipping everytime he tried. We got a nice big rug and moved our couches to make a little pen type area that allowed him to experiment crawling, but only on the mat at first. Of course, he wanted to venture out once he got the hang of it, so we just made sure he had nice thick pants on. Now he is in size 0, the jeans and things often have reinforced crawl patches which are great in providing that little extra padding.
We had floorboards when E was crawling and someone suggested to me to cut the feet out of a pair of her tights and fold it up around her knees making a little pad. Seemed like a good idea at the time, but in the end I did nothing. Even now her legs are always covered in bruises.

I tried something like that but they never stayed in place. But I used a pair of socks, so maybe they were too big for her skinny legs.

Knee Pads - do you your partner have any wrist bands for sports?? You can buy them for about $5 for a pair and slip these over his knees to protect them.
