Hi,

I have an Avent Isis manual breast pump and lately whenever I use it, the little white plug thing pops THROUGH the hole so the pump doesn't work. Every time I get going and get some milk flowing, this happens and I have to pull it apart and put the plug back in (usually to just have it happen again). :banghead:

Has anyone else had this problem? Am I doing something wrong??? It's barely 3mths old and used to work fine.

Are you putting it in flat side down?

What do you use to sterilise it? That can affect the integrity of the part. I steam mine, and I am still using the same white disc I started with - the pump has had about 4 years of use, and about 3 years of storage between babies.

Aardvark, yeah I put the flat side down and it pops through the hole and turns itself up the other way.

And I clean it with the Avent microwave steriliser.

And when it first happened, I got out the other (never used) white plug and tried it and it did the same thing.

Very very frustrating. I need to express!!

Hey Cosmic

I think that sometimes they are faulty as this happened to me once or twice. Mine had a spare white plug when I bought it and it worked fine since. I can send you mine or contact Avent and they'll express post you a new one. They are pretty good apparently with faulty goods....not that I've tried but other people have said they are onto things like that asap.

Good luck :)

I had the same problems but found if I released the suction from my breasts everynow and then it was fine.

Also if I pumped quickly it tended to explode as well.

I will probably try new plugs next time to see how that goes.

Yes, I had the same problem with mine.

Best advice I can give you is to email or phone Avent Customer Service. You can contact them via their website. I didn't contact them about this issue, but I have contacted them about other things & have found that they will bend over backwards to help you, including replacing any faulty parts promptly.

Cosmic, have you had any luck with Avent? I've had my Isis pump for 3 months now and it's starting to happen to me as well! I've tried the spares that came in the box and it's still happening. It's extremely frustrating and I think my expressing quantity is lower cuz of it.

I have just emailed Avent and am hoping that they come back to me asap.

I had the SAME problem .. I emailed them .. and got NO response :( I was NOT happy ... but a wonderful bubhubber sent me their pump .. and so I had spare white circles ... :smiliedance:

it is VERY frustrating - make sure you DONT remove the white bit for cleaning - the more you move it .. the looser it gets ..

at the worst time - all it took was 8-9 pumps and the white bit popped out (reduced me to tears many a time ... its not fun- and I got milk EVERYWHERE trying to put the bit back in!!!) grr!!!

I'm very impressed with Avent! I emailed them last Tuesday night and got a response on Wednesday saying they would send me the spare valves. I got them in the mail today!! The valves have a new & improved design which prevents the problem that I was having. I'm so happy about it! Breastfeeding takes so much commitment and having a pump that really works well is a God-send!
