:yelclap:I am an University of Queensland (Brisbane) Midwifery student looking for pregnant women who will participate in a follow through experience. As students we attend your antenatal appointments and observe the care provided to you through your pregnancy. We also attend your labour and birth and the postnatal period. It is preferable that we have women who are less than 34 weeks pregnant as we have to attend at least 5 antenatal appointments. As I am only in my first year of the midwifery course, my role is mainly observational. I have four children of my own ranging from 4-18 years of age. I have had different birthing experiences including induction and vacuum birth. I would really appreciate any women who reside in Brisbane and are birthing at either the Mater Mothers Hospital, Royal Womens Hospital or even the private maternity hospitals on the southside (if the obstetrician is fine with having a student attend appointments and labour ward) to participate. Please post a reply to discuss or email me on belinda.munnich@uqconnect.edu.au

Cheers, Belinda

Hi Belinda,

I am only 10 weeks (EDD: 23.04.11) and am seeing an Obstetrician at Arrivals and am giving birth at the Mater. I haven't discussed the idea with my husband yet - will do tonight! But I am interested in having a student midwife with me for app and the birth etc.

Have you found anyone yet?

If not please let me know and I will be in touch.

Thanks

Hi Rubymay,

If your husband is happy with the idea of having a student attend your appointments and birth, I am more than happy to be that person. I always feel honoured to be part of a woman's pregnancy/birthing experience. It doesn't matter how many weeks you are. The uni requires me to attend five antenatal appointments, the birth and a hospital visit after birth at the very minimum. The earlier the better I believe. I have been at a birth with one of the 'Arrivals' obstetricians and he was absolutely fabulous. They are a really good way to go. Let me know what you guys decide. Just remember the amount I'm involved in your experience is totally up to you two.
If you wish to talk with me directly, my email is belinda.munnich@uqconnect.edu.au

Thanks for contacting me, Belinda.
