Hi!

I have what is probably a really stupid question... with a baby's age when do you start counting months instead of weeks old...

For example my little boy is 20 weeks tomorrow so what would that be... (I am a little confused as some months don't just have 4 weeks...)

I hope that makes sense!

There aren't rules about this stuff. Call his age whatever you like :D You could count in fortnights instead if you wanted to be different. ;) If he's 20 weeks to you, he's 20 weeks. I don't think the Baby Age Counting Police are coming for you :D

LOL RyansMummy! I remember thinking the same thing!! I think I dropped the week count when DD hit 3 months old... She was born on the 18th of March, so on 18th June I was saying she was 3 months old. She is now 5 1/2 months old - no idea how many weeks!! Just do what you feel comfortable with - I promise I won't tell the Baby Age Counting Police!! :D

Cheers!

Leisha, you made me laugh, I was exactly the same (you get so used to the "weeks" terminology when you are pregnant!!!!!!!!!!).
As per above there is no "rule" as such, but I asked Health Nurse and Doctor and they said they usually term babies by weeks until they are no longer newborn (maybe to 8 weeks?).
Once I changed to "months" I found it easier to calculate!
That's the beauty of this chat group, most questions are something someone else was thinking!!!!!!!!!!

I think we changed over to months at about 4 months- but you're right we had to do a bit of adjusting cause the weeks don't add up quite right!!

I know it probably sounded silly but it had me all confused!!! :o

I think I will just count on the 15th of each month (eg he was born on the 15th april so that will make him 5mths on the 15th September)... and just hope no one dobs me in to the Baby Age Counting Police!!! lol :D

Thanks Mums!

Hi Leisha

By the way - I wasn't laughing at you - I was laughing with you!! I didn't think your Q was silly! It never ceases to amaze me - what we think is a silly Q is one that a whole heap of us want to know the answer to!

Cheers!

I'm so glad someone asked this question, cause I was wondering the same thing!
I had to take bubs to the doctor the other day as he was unwell and the doctor asked how old he was - I was calculating in weeks so put him at about 5 1/2 months. The doctor checked his birth date and said "actually he is only about to turn 5 months as we go by calender months - the weekly count is only done when pregnant"! I felt a bit silly but I guess now i know how to work it out! LOL!!
