Hi I am new to this site and have a question that I would love to hear people's thoughts on.
I am pregnant with my second and went for my 13 week scan today and was told by doctor that their educated guess the baby would be a boy! Does anyone have any thoughts on accuracy of a doctors guess at 13 weeks????? or experiences like this??

Hello, and welcome to the hub to start with.
I'm unsure of how right they can be at this stage. Hopefully they are right, and they can tell!

Welcome to bubhub! I've heard that they can sometimes tell what bubs is, but it's far more accurate when the baby is at least 16 weeks. See you round!!

Hi and welcome to BubHub, I'm sure you'll love it here - its a great place to chat with people about any questions you might have, things you are going through and so on...
Regarding telling the sex at 13 weeks I'm no medical expert, but it just sounds too early doesn't it? Although when I think back we thought we could see a tiny little doodle in the 13 week scan photos from my pregnancy and it did turn out to be a boy. It'll be interesting to wait and see! Will you ask at your 19 week what it is to confirm?

I vaguley remember reading somewhere that the baby's genitals are developed as of 12 weeks but it is hard to tell the sex because everything is still so small. I think that is why they usually wait until the anatomy scan to tell u, and even then they can get it wrong. (i would get them to double check at ur next scan, just to be sure!)
WELCOME TO BUB HUB!!
Hi welcome welcome
in regards to the gender predicting of such.. i wasnt sure they could really tell that early, but i guess maybe the more experienced they are the better they can tell maybe. and some just dont like to tell too early so they can cover their butts from my understanding.
i had a scan at around 18 weeks and she wouldnt tell me. because it was their "policy" had to wait till at least 20 weeks. so they probably could tell what sex it was, just had to wait i guess.
good luck and hope to see you around.
Hi and welcome
I just want to say congrats and welcome
You are very lucky to get a tech to have a guess this early, and also lucky to be having a boy, jeez I hope i have a boy.....
I havent found out before the 20 week scan before, jeez your lucky....haha, it isnt fair!
only joking, well done.

Hi and welcome
Im not too sure how accurate the scan could be but i guess some scanners have has more experience. Plus most of them like to cover their backsides just in case when its that early....
All the best to you hun :)

Hi there welcome to bubhub!! I don't know if they can tell at 13 weeks I would have said it was a bit early but you never know.
My sister had her 12 week scan and they told her it looked like a boy, at her 18 week scan they changed their mind and said girl, she's had another scan and it's definately a girl.. :D They could be right, but i'd still be waiting for the 18 week scan!

hi! congrats on 2nd pregnancy:yelclap: and welcome!!!:D
my friend found out she was having a boy at 13 weeks and they were right!!!
maybe the can tell easier with boys??..;)
who knows... goodluck though!!!
and at 13 weeks your not to far off having it properly confirmed at ur 19 or 20 week scan!!!
They can see the genetals now but they generally dont try to tell you what the sex is as there is lots of swelling with hormones and they often get it wrong this early.
Welcome BTW.

Hi there
Welcome to the hub!
From what I have heard at 12wks there is some 'budding' in the genital area which (depending on the angle or direction) can be interpreted by a well versed staff member
Lots of room for error I would think
Maybe post another thread on this in another area as not everyone would think to look in the into section and you might get some folks in bub hub land that know exactly the answer (iykwim)
T'rah for now
