Lately I have been suffering from this. Its horrible!!

Usually I will get to sleep fairly easily but I will wake during the night unable to get back to sleep. The warm milk & honey thing doesn't work for me as it only makes me thirsty.

Does anyone have any tips for getting back to sleep? I am so frustrated & tired!! :(

Reading a book in dim light always works for me. Keep a book on your bedside table and when you can't sleep, turn a night light on and read for a few minutes. Guaranteed to make you drowsy...

If all else fails, log on to bubhub :D Its so quiet in the dead of night, it would have to bore you to sleep

I have no advice for you Becky but I just want to say that I'm jealous! I dream of insomnia right now. Maybe you could have Hamish for a week-that would be a sure-fire cure! :D

Hmm how about housework? Nothing like sweeping the kitchen floor at 3am.....:D

Watched late night tv? Curl up on the couch...

Hmm.

If you have a clock next to your bed, try looking at the time and then closing your eyes and you are not allowed to open them till it has passed to the next minute, then the next and so on. Works for me somtimes.

I feel for you. I have suffered from insomnia on & off for several years (made much worse during PG, so I am suffering double time at the moment!!)

I find that the one & only thing that helps me is to fall asleep with the TV on. Used to drive DH crazy, but now he can't fall asleep without it on! :o

I think it just helps me to switch off & let go of the millions of thoughts/worries bounding through my head. I don't actually watch it for the most part, just have it on in the background.

You can ring me and I will complain to you. That will bore you to sleep. I have insomnia too, a gift from my lovely little man who has interrupted my sleep for more than one year now :D.

No you dont! I have insomnia, and belive me...when you have just dosed off at midnight to be woken at 1230 by a baby, then just doze off abour 3 to be woken at 330....ect...you get the picture.

YOU DO NOT WANT IT! :D

Bec - I feel for you! The only thing I find I can do is tell myself....okay, its time to go to sleep now, it doesnt matter if you only sleep for 10 minutes, anything is better than nothing. My insomnia is pretty much for fear of only just getting to sleep and being re woken lately! LOL

Stress affects me really badly!

Ok Beck this 100% works for me...

Start singing songs in your head ( i do church songs)
go from A - Z
Find a song which the first word in the first line starts with A

(Eg: Amazing Grace)

sing as much of it as you like ( i usually sing the first verse and chorus)

then move to B and so on...

I NEVER get to M

:hugs: to you hope something works

Oh Becky you poor thing.

I've studied a lot about Insomnia. You need to have what's called good 'sleep hygiene'. If you are not doing these already you need to:

Only use your bed for sleep & sex..........sorry but that means no reading, no TV, no eating in bed
Avoid caffiene, alcohol, cigarettes and heavy or spicy meals late at night
Don't exercise within 2 hours of going to bed
Try have a structure to your day eg: a routine of going to bed and waking the same everyday if you can
Avoid bright lights at night & naps during the day if you can
If your clock is bright or ticks or you find yourself constantly checking it...........remove it from your bedroom

You might also want to try some relaxation techniques if you are feeling a bit frazzled. And if the insomnia persists past a month I would go see your GP.

Hopefully you are doing this -   - in no time!

Well when you find out a cure, without medication can you please let me know, most nights I cant get to sleep until after 1am or later, and then I have to wake up at 6.0am, most nights I get a total of about 3 hours sleep and dont sleep during the day.. Or if I do go to sleep early, I wake up and cant get back to the land of nod...cant clean, as most of the time my housework is done during the day, DP hates it when I constantly wake him up because I cant sleep (I understand as he has to work, gets up at 5am).........:banghead:

So please, I would love to waking up feeling refreshed after a good nights sleep, as I said when you find a cure that works let me know:idea:

:hugs: Insomnia is the worst, but I guess you don't need me to tell you that! I used to read until I fell asleep, or I would listen to my ipod (or radio etc) and that would put me to sleep. Also, the radio is like company, and it's nice to know that you're not the only person in the world who isn't asleep. Another thing I would do is try not to nap during the day, or sleep in.

I too am suffering. I have never been a particularly great sleeper and always wake except the days of a new baby, when you fall asleep just breastfeeding. For the past 3 nights, I am finding that I cannot get to sleep, usually it takes a while, but this has been hours and I think I have had about 4-5 hours sleep at the most each night. I hope there are some tips I can try.
