Has anyone elses little boy had there undescended testes bought down?

We are off to see the surgeon again next week as they've given him as long as they could and now want to surgically bring it down...but i have a few questions

how do they do it? is it day surgery or a few days in hospital? how much will it hurt him? im assuming it will require a general anaestic, am i right? are there side effects from any of this?

I know theres no choice in getting it done as the risks if we dont are infertility and worse yet, cancer down there. So its getting done I'd just really like to know what 'we' are in for

thanks in advance,
charmaine

sorry, I have to post quickly
it will be day surgery - its a very common thing with little boys - no it won't be painfull - he will have a little scar above his groin which will fade within the coming year or so
my bub went into have this done and it was actually discovered his testicle had never formed and therefore he only had one (must point out though that my son's case is very rare)
they have to have them lowered when they are little as apparently one of the causes of testicle cancer in older males is testicles that never dropped

my little one is having his done in december. hes already had to have a hernia op so i know how horrible it is not knowing what will happen etc etc. he had a day case for that and the surgeon has said he will just be a day case for the testicle too. the anaesthetics are so light and very precise so they give them just enough to keep them under but not too much to leave them groggy or risk complications. im sure he will be fine. they have said with my boy that his testes is quite high up so it may be that when they try to pull it down into his sac the blood vessels might'nt be long enough to stretch - so he might lose it. but if he doesn't have the op he will lose it anyway, as it will be non-functioning as it is too warm in the body; so it's worth having a go.

best of luck, try not to worry too much (impossible, i know!)

Hey there,

Try not to stress. My DS1 had it done when he was only 10 months old. They put them to sleep and it is only day surgery. My son was crawling around the hospital before we left. My son was weighed so they knew how much to give him. Try not to stress and right down all your questions so you can ask when you have your appointment.

Good luck and if you have any other questions please feel free to ask. When is your appointment?

It's normal to be anxious. But there is one thing I want to warn you about and that is if you or your DP can go in with till he is asleep please get your DP to. I went in with DS1 and I ended up crying. I was warned but didn't listen because I wanted to be with him till he was asleep and I regretted it.

Please keep me posted. And any questions just ask away.
