My DS turns 1 next month. We've bought him a plastic sandpit, a trike (second-hand and free actually!) and some Mega Blocks. I was hoping that people could offer some suggestions for toys that their little boys of a similar age liked. Also any books that they liked at that age too. Thanks. I have a voucher for Toyworld so I'll be buying some stuff and would like to choose well.

Sandpit toys - bucket and spades and trucks. My nephew loves anything with wheels!

Have a look at the hard paged books they are great for toddlers. Some of our favourites are Where is the Green Sheep?, Josephine Loves to Dance and Diary of a Wombat. They are 3 that come to mind, but we also have quite a few alphabet books with simple pictures or photo's that are quite good. Some of the Pamela Allen books are good too. We have a book that DD3 got for her 1st Christmas called Russell the Sheep - about a sheep who can't fall asleep and she LOVES it. Hairy McClairy comes in hard pages and they are always a fun read.

Have fun shopping - spending gift vouchers is always good fun!!

I have girls, hopefully that doesn't matter :D

My 14 mth old LOVES:
Spot
In the Night Garden books/tv show
Where is the Green Sheep as said above HUGE hit
There was an old woman who swallowed a fly
The very hungry caterpillar

She also loves this little tent that we have (having said that, DD1 hated it so all kids are different!) and hides in there with her toys, just playing or 'reading'.

What about some toys for the bath? They always go down well here - you can get a fountain type thing that attached to the bath that they pour water into and it turns...

Stacking cups or a shape sorter - both well received here!

good luck and happy birthday to your little one :D

Ive also just read out of whatever book Im reading at the time since he was born. Also bath toys are really good, My DS has a duck, plastic cups and a boat.

We bought my DS some of those 'touch and feel' books. You know, the ones with pictures of a cat and you touch it and its soft etc. He loved them. Hes 6 now and we still have a couple of those kicking around the book box haha

You may want to consider a big, lasting present, such as a baby swing for outdoors or a rocking horse. If you already have loads of toys, she won't object if some people buy her clothes also.......
